Treasure Chest Trap No. 129!

Wang Xiaodie awoke early. She hadn’t slept well at all, always worrying that Chenfeng might suddenly roll over in the night and crush her. But when she saw him sleeping like a log, she managed to doze off as well. When she woke the next morning, Chenfeng was still asleep. She couldn’t help but think of him as a pig.

When Chenfeng was awake, he was incredibly energetic; when he slept, he was dead to the world. This was one manifestation of his split-soul ability. After sleeping for an entire day, he’d be so thoroughly recharged that he could remain energetic for a long while. When Wang Xiaodie came out of the bathroom, she saw that Chenfeng had woken up, and their eyes met.

“Come give me a back massage. If we don’t find the treasure tonight, we might have to fight another group battle.” Chenfeng flopped onto the bed, calling Wang Xiaodie over with a tone that brooked no argument, not even bothering with her name.

Long hours of gaming inevitably led to a sore waist and aching back. Chenfeng didn’t notice it himself, but it was a hidden hazard he had to watch out for. Wang Xiaodie found it odd—why did Chenfeng suddenly want a back massage? Another battle tonight? That seemed unlikely.

Still, Wang Xiaodie went over to help, asking, “You wake up with back pain? Are you all right? Want to get checked out?”

Judging from her tone, Chenfeng knew she was teasing, so he replied offhandedly, “Why don’t we test it out? Seven or eight times in a row, no problem.”

“Heh!” Wang Xiaodie knew this was just how Chenfeng talked, so she ignored him and kept massaging his back.

Chenfeng instructed her to focus on his lumbar spine—there really was a hint of a muscle strain. “It’s not that there’s anything wrong with me,” he said, “it’s just that I try to deal with any hidden physical issues while I have time. Don’t assume your own back is fine. It’s just that you’re young and can handle it. If we get into a group battle, and your body can’t keep up or you suddenly get a pain, it’ll be a disaster.”

“You’re the one with the problem!” Wang Xiaodie pressed harder. Chenfeng wondered if she wanted to kill him—if she kept this up, he’d be even more injured.

Suddenly, Chenfeng’s phone rang. He glanced at it—it was Outles calling from abroad. He tossed the phone aside and ignored it. When the call ended and started again, he still didn’t answer.

Wang Xiaodie noticed the caller ID said “Shorty.” Chenfeng was the only one in the team who dared call Outles “Shorty,” so it had to be him. Wang Xiaodie was puzzled. “Why aren’t you answering? Maybe it’s urgent—maybe Outles found the treasure and wants you online, or needs your help with a group battle.”

“Whatever it is, it’s not good news. If I answer, I’ll have to log in, and it’s not every day a beautiful woman gives me a back massage—I’d rather die than go online,” Chenfeng said frankly. He knew if Outles had good news, he’d never share it. If he found a major treasure, he’d want to keep it all for himself, not share with Chenfeng. As for group battles, with Outles’s personality, he’d never start one without intel on the opponent, so if he was calling now, it couldn’t be for anything good.

“What if it really is urgent?” Wang Xiaodie worried for Chenfeng. She knew Outles and Chenfeng worked well together, but they were also rivals. Right now, Chenfeng was ahead, but Outles’s arrogance depended on having Chenfeng, his powerhouse, in the team.

“If it’s urgent, it’s his problem. He built the team, not me. With his abilities, he can handle it. He just wants me to do the heavy lifting and make things easier for himself.” Chenfeng felt perfectly at ease. Even if there was a group battle, he wasn’t logging in. “Don’t get too excited just because Outles praised you a couple of times. You were just lucky. If you blindly trust him, you’ll never know what hit you.”

He added, “And don’t give Outles your phone number. Don’t tell him you’re living with me.” He realized he’d better warn her—otherwise, things could get tricky.

But what he feared most happened anyway. Wang Xiaodie’s phone rang. She was a bit helpless. “Last night after you logged off, Outles asked me about it…”

Disaster! Chenfeng realized he’d been a step too late. How could Wang Xiaodie be so naive? She really wasn’t cut out for Outles’s scheming team—one day she’d die and not know why. She’d always been on the team’s periphery, but after her recent good performance, Outles had praised her and casually inquired about Chenfeng. Once he realized she was living with Chenfeng, he’d asked for her phone number, saying every team member needed to be reachable for group battles. Wang Xiaodie had believed him and given it.

Don’t answer! As Wang Xiaodie reached for her phone, Chenfeng snatched it away—it was Outles. He told her not to pick up.

Outles hadn’t expected even Wang Xiaodie to ignore his call—were they really still asleep?

This time, Outles really did need Chenfeng’s help. He’d noticed Lishe and the others closing in on the same spot: a Winter Chest beside the Bone Dragon. If they got it, it’d be trouble. Outles didn’t think they could do it, but if they dared try, they must have some confidence. With three legendary beast gods on the other side, Outles didn’t dare go over himself; he needed Chenfeng. But Chenfeng wouldn’t answer, and neither would Wang Xiaodie.

In fact, Outles could have caused chaos—there was a boss in the area, and if he stunned someone and lured the boss to kill them, it could work. But going alone was risky; the others were useless and would just get killed. Only Chenfeng could really help. But Chenfeng simply wouldn’t answer.

Opening the chest would definitely wake the Bone Dragon boss. The Dark Bat had cast a giant black net to temporarily restrain the dragon while the Death Mantis tried to open the chest. This ultimate move had limited uses and a long cooldown—normally he’d never waste it, but for the dragon’s treasure, he was going all in.

Lishe had a mission here and hadn’t expected Shadow Corner to have one too. Their paths had collided. Originally, he thought Outles’s team was here for something else, but now with their missions overlapping, he wasn’t sure if there’d be conflict. He decided to finish his own task first.

The Bone Dragon roared, thrashing against the black net, desperate to tear apart the ants before it. But the more it struggled, the tighter the net’s hold. Since its head wasn’t near the Death Mantis, it couldn’t use its breath attack to interrupt the chest-opening spell.

Dark Thrust!

Seven seconds. At the seven-second mark, Outles interrupted Death Mantis’s spell, forcing him to start over. After the ambush, Outles immediately went underground and fled—he didn’t believe that the Dark Bat’s net could last seventeen seconds.

“Damn!” Outles’s sneak attack succeeded; he disappeared before anyone could catch him. The black net lost effect at twelve seconds, so Death Mantis and the others had to flee fast. Facing this boss now was too difficult.

What a waste! Outles watched the others retreat, feeling frustrated. If Chenfeng had been here, they could’ve counterattacked. But Chenfeng just wouldn’t log in. Death Mantis’s side had Dark Bat, Lishe, Yahun, and Shadow Priest Shatan. Facing five with only two was tough, but with the Bone Dragon’s help, it would’ve been easy to kill someone if they could keep them there. As for being killed themselves, Outles didn’t care—he had a getaway skill and wouldn’t die.

Failure!

Dark Bat’s ultimate, combined with Death Mantis’s chest-opening, was a frontal assault, and they’d expected Outles to interfere. They’d prepared to ambush him nearby, thinking if Chenfeng and Outles chased them, they could turn the tables and kill one of them.

Yahun could lock down space, making Chenfeng’s space-time travel useless. Dark Bat had anti-stealth detection, making it hard for Chenfeng to hide. As long as Pursuit of Time could contain Chenfeng, they’d have him. But Chenfeng never showed up. Outles only interrupted the spell and never followed up to kill with the Bone Dragon.

The truth was, Lishe’s team was taking a huge risk, daring to challenge the Bone Dragon and steal the chest. Their plan was to use the Bone Dragon against Outles if he interfered. Outles could guarantee his own safety; what happened to the rest was none of his concern. If they could trap someone, they’d deal a heavy blow to the other side—a risk well worth taking.

But the theft failed. They hadn’t managed to lure out Outles and Chenfeng, another failure. It wasn’t just a waste of Dark Bat’s ultimate. The Bone Dragon was now awake, and putting it back to sleep would be difficult—opening the chest again was nearly impossible.

Morale took a hit! They’d hoped to use this chance to kill Chenfeng and take his magic ring, restoring their side’s confidence. Instead, they’d had to flee the Bone Dragon’s lair empty-handed, frustrated by their lack of success.

As for Chenfeng? He was still lying comfortably on his bed, letting Wang Xiaodie massage his back—whatever battles were happening in the game, they had nothing to do with him.

It wasn’t until the afternoon that Chenfeng finally logged in. Outles started cursing him furiously, but Chenfeng just said he’d been asleep and didn’t wake up. Outles had nothing more to say. Chenfeng had known it couldn’t be anything good—judging by Outles’s words, he’d wanted Chenfeng to hunt down Death Mantis’s team, but who knew who’d end up dead? If the Bone Dragon’s aggro shifted to him and he got ganged up on by both sides, it’d be Chenfeng who died!

Wang Xiaodie still didn’t quite understand—she’d wanted to scold Chenfeng for missing a group battle, but after hearing his explanation, she realized just how dangerous it had been.
