Chapter Twenty-One: Better a Short Pain than a Long One
“Mom, it’s already fine. Brother has helped me apply the medicine,” Zhao Di Shi replied.
“Let me have a look—” Shi Sao’s face stiffened as she insisted.
Zhao Di Shi reluctantly took off his school uniform jacket and carefully pulled aside the sweater at his shoulder, allowing his mother to see the injured area.
“Don’t take a shower tonight. Just wipe it gently. Don’t let the wound come into contact with water; be careful not to let it get infected,” Shi Sao instructed after inspecting the wound on her daughter’s shoulder.
“Mom, I understand. I’ll be careful,” Zhao Di Shi nodded in response.
“Zhao Di…” Shi Sao called out as she watched her daughter searching for a change of clothes.
“Mom, what is it?” Zhao Di Shi turned to look at her mother and asked.
“Zhao Di, I’ve thought it over. Over the years, I’ve managed to save some money. I’ll find another nanny job elsewhere, and it should cover your university expenses. So, I’m planning to quit working for the Shi family after the New Year,” Shi Sao said slowly but earnestly as she looked at her daughter.
“Mom, are we going to leave here?” Zhao Di Shi asked in surprise.
She had never imagined that one day she would leave the Jiang family.
More precisely, she never thought she would leave with Jiang Hao’en.
“What do you think? It’s been seven or eight years already since we’ve been with the Jiang family. Staying like this forever isn’t a long-term solution.”
“Mom, haven’t you been doing well with the Jiang family? Why do you suddenly want to leave?” Zhao Di Shi asked anxiously.
“Zhao Di, I know what you can’t bear to part with. You’re still young and don’t understand yet. When you grow up, one day you’ll understand. We come from two different worlds from the Jiang family.
Before, there was no other way. You were young, and the benefits the Jiang family provided were good, so I lived here with you.
Now that you’re grown, I’ve thought about it. If we save a bit and you focus on your studies, I can rent a place near your school, and we can still live well,” Shi Sao said earnestly.
“Mom, is it because of what happened today that you want to leave? You know, Brother rarely has episodes anymore. He must have been triggered by something today. He’s usually very good to me,” Zhao Di Shi hurriedly clarified.
“I know. The young master is a kind boy. Just because he doesn’t talk much doesn’t mean he doesn’t understand. In fact, he’s very perceptive. But, Zhao Di, whether he’s normal or not, as long as he is the young master of the Jiang family, it’s impossible for you two,” Shi Sao said, speaking seriously to her daughter for the first time.
“Mom, I’ve never thought about anything else. I just want to see Brother every day,” Zhao Di Shi replied.
“Silly girl, you’re still young and easily satisfied now. But what about later? When the young master reaches marriageable age, the Jiang family will definitely find him a suitable match.
Given their status, even if the young master had autism or a terminal illness, they would find the perfect girl for him. At that time, would you still be content just watching him from afar?
Child, I’ve been through this, and I understand your feelings. I know it will be hard and unwilling for you to leave with me now, but I don’t want to see you get hurt in the future. You’re my only daughter! It’s better to have a short pain than a long one,” Shi Sao persuaded gently.
