Chapter 49 Ambiguity
Upon returning to the classroom from the office, Shi Zhaodi found it completely empty; everyone had already gone to lunch.
Only Zou Kai was still slumped over his desk, looking listless.
"Zou Kai, why aren't you going to eat?" Shi Zhaodi walked over to her seat, smiling as she took her wallet out of her schoolbag.
"Whose fault do you think it is, waiting for you!" Zou Kai said, looking somewhat impatient.
"Waiting for me?" Shi Zhaodi looked at Zou Kai in confusion, only to realize the next second, "Are you waiting to have lunch with me?"
"Considering you helped me celebrate my birthday yesterday, I suppose I can reluctantly treat you to a meal," Zou Kai said lazily, pushing himself up to his feet.
"You really didn't have to treat me, it's fine!" Shi Zhaodi replied with a smile.
"Let's go, stop chattering so much." Zou Kai looked even more irritable.
Shi Zhaodi had no choice but to follow him out of the classroom.
She couldn't help but wonder why Zou Kai's temper was still so terrible. He was just like a firecracker, exploding the moment a spark touched him.
Fortunately, after spending this period of time together, she had grown used to it. She knew he was all bark and bite; though his temper was fiery, he meant no real harm. Gradually, she stopped taking his bad temper to heart.
"Where are we going?"
"Outside, of course. You expect to go eat cafeteria leftovers at this hour?" Zou Kai glanced at her, his look blatantly conveying that she was remarkably foolish.
Shi Zhaodi had no choice but to accompany him toward the school gate.
She suddenly remembered that she had forgotten to bring her medicine pouch with her. She must remember to take her medicine as soon as they returned after the meal.
Suddenly, Shi Zhaodi was yanked violently aside. Caught completely off guard, she almost stumbled and fell.
"Damn it, can't you watch where you're riding? Trying to cause a campus accident?" Zou Kai roared.
"Sorry, I wasn't paying attention just now. I'm sorry."
Shi Zhaodi turned her head and saw it was Zhao铭, a classmate from the same grade.
"Zhaodi, are you alright?" Zhao Ming asked, glancing between Shi Zhaodi and Zou Kai with a strange look in his eyes.
"I'm fine." Shi Zhaodi shook her head with a smile.
Under Zou Kai's fierce glare, Zhao Ming sheepishly hopped back onto his bicycle and rode away.
Shi Zhaodi withdrew her gaze, only to realize at that moment that she was actually pressed against Zou Kai's chest, and one of his hands was still holding hers.
"I'm okay now, thanks for just then." Feeling somewhat awkward, Shi Zhaodi pulled her hand away from Zou Kai's grip and stepped back a pace.
"You idiot, don't you look where you're walking? What on earth goes on in that brain of yours? You just had a fever yesterday, looking to have an accident today?" Zou Kai shouted, his face flushing crimson.
"Zou Kai, aren't you overreacting a bit?" Looking at the furious Zou Kai, Shi Zhaodi suddenly felt an urge to laugh.
"You can still laugh, you absolute fool!" Zou Kai reached out and pinched Shi Zhaodi's cheek, speaking with indignation.
The next second, both of them froze. Zou Kai awkwardly let go of his hand, and Shi Zhaodi turned her blushing face away.
