Chapter 50: The Unsophisticated Emperor Shi Zhao
"Come on, let's hurry up and eat. We still have classes this afternoon," Shi Zhaodi finally said hesitantly.
Zou Kai pursed his lips and walked ahead, with Shi Zhaodi silently following behind. Neither of them spoke again.
"Zou Kai, where are we going to eat?" After leaving the school gate and walking for a while, Zou Kai kept moving forward. Shi Zhaodi couldn't help but ask.
"There's a Western restaurant up ahead," Zou Kai replied expressionlessly.
"We can just eat something simple. Let's not go there; it's too expensive," Shi Zhaodi said quickly.
"I'm the one treating you, not the other way around. Stop whining and hurry up—I'm starving!" Zou Kai grew more impatient.
Shi Zhaodi had no choice but to follow Zou Kai into the Western restaurant, still thinking about how to get him to stop cursing and using foul language in the future.
Inside the Western restaurant, Shi Zhaodi felt both curious and unfamiliar. She had never been to such a high-end place before. She didn’t even know how to use a knife and fork.
Zou Kai found a window seat and ordered a T-bone steak. Shi Zhaodi flipped through the menu, unsure what to order since every set looked very pricey.
She looked up at Zou Kai. "Is there nothing you want to eat?"
"It's so expensive!" Shi Zhaodi whispered, hiding behind the menu as she leaned closer.
"Just order whatever you like. I have coupons anyway," Zou Kai said, glaring at her.
In the end, Shi Zhaodi reluctantly ordered lotus leaf pork ribs rice.
After placing their order, the waiter brought a fruit platter.
"Go ahead and eat. The fruit here is unlimited," Zou Kai said.
"Really?" Shi Zhaodi's eyes lit up as she picked up her fork and started eating the fruit.
"Has the Jiang family always spoiled you? How come, after living with them for so many years, you're still such a country bumpkin?" Zou Kai asked her with a side glance.
"What? How am I a bumpkin? I just prefer Chinese food and have never been to a Western restaurant before. Everyone has a first time," Shi Zhaodi protested indignantly.
"You’ve never even been to a Western restaurant and you say you’re not a bumpkin?" Zou Kai sneered.
"Do you know the ranking of Chinese cuisine in the world? Do you know which restaurants are the most numerous and popular globally? Do you know what Chinese students abroad crave the most? You don’t know any of that? You’re the one who worships foreign things, yet you call me a bumpkin!" Zou Kai said, looking at Shi Zhaodi like a rooster full of fighting spirit, unable to help but laugh.
"Fine, you win with your patriotism!" Zou Kai finally admitted defeat.
"Of course! The country I love is China!" Shi Zhaodi said proudly, continuing to eat her fruit.
