Chapter Eight: Delightful Adversaries
In the afternoon, Zou Kai did not come to school.
Shi Zhaodi took the test paper to Zou Kai’s home. Fortunately, it wasn’t far from the Jiang family’s place, so it was somewhat along the way.
Upon arriving at the Zou residence, Shi Zhaodi rang the doorbell. The housekeeper and Madam He opened the door.
“Auntie, hello, I’m Zou Kai’s classmate. I’ve brought his test paper. Is he home?”
“Oh, you’re the young master’s classmate? Please come in and have a seat. I’m the household manager, and this is Madam He,” she said kindly.
They led her inside.
“The young master is upstairs. I’ll go call him down. Please sit for a moment,” Madam He said, then went upstairs to fetch Zou Kai.
Shi Zhaodi obediently sat on the sofa, hands neatly placed on her knees, waiting for Zou Kai to come downstairs.
Madam He returned first with a cup of tea for Shi Zhaodi.
After quite a while, Zou Kai finally came down lazily. Seeing Shi Zhaodi, he furrowed his brows and asked impatiently,
“What now? Why are you coming to my house?”
“You didn’t come to class today. The teacher assigned a lot of homework, and there was a math unit test this afternoon. I brought you the test paper,” Shi Zhaodi said, pulling the paper out of her backpack.
“Who asked you to meddle in my business?”
“If you’re part of our class, it’s your duty not to hold us back. As class monitor, it’s my responsibility to supervise your studies.”
“Honestly, are you secretly in love with me? That’s why you find excuses to get close and even come to my house?” Zou Kai suddenly smirked, looking at Shi Zhaodi in a teasing manner.
Shi Zhaodi was momentarily stunned, then stared at Zou Kai for a long time.
Feeling uncomfortable under her gaze, Zou Kai finally heard her say,
“You’re not the kind of boy I like.”
Zou Kai’s expression instantly changed.
He had only intended to tease Shi Zhaodi, but she answered so straightforwardly.
“I’ve brought you the test paper, and I’ve written down the rest of the homework on this sheet. Remember to do it tonight,” Shi Zhaodi continued, instructing him.
Before Zou Kai could respond, she slung her backpack over her shoulder and stood up.
“Well, I’m leaving now. Don’t be late for class tomorrow!”
Zou Kai’s face darkened with anger. Where on earth had such a stubborn and unyielding person come from?
Shi Zhaodi reached the door but couldn’t open it. Not knowing how, she turned to Zou Kai for help.
“Can you help me open the door?”
“If you can, open it yourself!” Zou Kai said, then went straight upstairs.
What a rude and uncultured person.
If anyone liked someone like him, they must be a fool!
In the end, Shi Zhaodi had no choice but to ask Madam He to help open the door.
