Chapter 9: A Call from the Director
Haiyuan Hospital.
Lin Yi gazed at his father, who was asleep, and asked in a heavy, hoarse voice, “Dad… what’s wrong?”
“The doctor said it’s a cerebral infarction. Your father… is unconscious,” Wang Xin said, choking back tears as she looked at her husband.
“Then… do we have any savings at home? Let’s use them to treat Dad,” Lin Yi hesitated for a moment before responding slowly.
Though he had been reborn, it had only been two days, and in these two days he still had to face the college entrance exam—where was the time to earn money?
If he had known his father would end up like this, he wouldn’t have refused Zhao Xin’s compensation back then.
Who could have guessed? Who could have imagined this world would diverge from the timeline he once knew?
Lin Yi really hadn’t anticipated this; he thought the world would unfold just as it did before.
Hearing her son’s words, Wang Xin struggled inwardly for a long time, then bit her lip and said, “Son, we won’t treat this illness. We’ll take him home.”
The doctor said his husband’s condition was extremely serious, and the later treatment and rehabilitation costs would run into hundreds of thousands, even over a million.
Their family had barely managed to save a few tens of thousands over the years.
What if they spent it all and it was all for nothing?
“Why?!” Lin Yi’s eyes widened. Understanding his mother’s predicament, he gently urged, “Mom, use the money to treat Dad. We can earn more money, but if Dad’s gone, he’s really gone.”
“No! If we spend all that on your father’s treatment, what about your schooling? What about your future marriage?” As Wang Xin spoke, she felt as if countless swords were piercing her heart. How she longed to heal her husband.
But such exorbitant costs made her hesitate.
“Mom, do you really want to watch Dad die before your eyes?” Lin Yi said ruthlessly, steeling himself.
“I…” she faltered.
“Mom, please listen to me this time, okay? I’ll earn the tuition and the money for my future wife myself.”
“But… the doctor said a full recovery will cost over a million!” Wang Xin protested.
“We’ll treat him first. I’ll figure out the money later,” Lin Yi said seriously, looking at his father on the hospital bed.
Wang Xin’s gaze fell on her son, hesitant to speak further. The follow-up medical fees would easily be over a hundred thousand.
Where was that money going to come from?
Thinking this over, Wang Xin earnestly advised, “Son, don’t do anything foolish. Leave the money matters to me. You just focus on your studies.”
Lin Yi smiled bitterly. His mother must think he’d do something wrong.
With the treasure he had from his past life, did he need to resort to illegal acts?
“Mom, don’t worry. I won’t do anything foolish,” Lin Yi said with a wry smile.
Riiing, riiing—
The urgent ringing echoed through the ward.
Lin Yi took out his phone and looked at the unknown number. After hesitating for a moment, he said to his mother, “Mom, I’m going to answer this call outside.”
“Go ahead.”
Outside the ward, Lin Yi connected the call.
“Hello, is this Mr. Lin Yi?”
“Yes, may I ask who is this?”
“I’m Li Xue, the director of ‘Nirvana in Fire.’ Do you have some time? I’d like to talk to you.”
“Nirvana in Fire?” Lin Yi’s eye twitched in disbelief. He had just submitted a song last night, and today he was already getting a call? Their efficiency was astonishing!
“I do.”
“Well, I’m currently at the Vienna Hotel in Haiyuan City. Could you come over now?”
Lin Yi was stunned. So soon… they were already reaching out to him in person.
“All right, I’m on my way.”
After hanging up, Lin Yi returned to the ward, told his mother he was going to meet a friend, then left the hospital.
Outside, he hailed a taxi and hurried to the Vienna Hotel.
