Chapter 18: The Red Nightshade, A Sister’s Love
Chapter 18: The Red Dragon Nightshade, A Sister’s Love
Xiao Se shook his head and smiled gently. “I’m fine, just a bit exhausted. Do you know what just happened?”
“Dragon Nightshade doesn’t know.” Dragon Nightshade lifted her beautiful, fair chin slightly, her gaze somewhat evasive.
“Dragon Nightshade, can you transform into red as well?” Xiao Se asked.
“Brother, I—”
Before Dragon Nightshade could finish, Xiao Se continued, “Brother doesn’t dislike you. No matter what form you take, you’ll always be my dearest family.”
“Mm.” Dragon Nightshade nodded slightly.
“Can you show me what you look like when you’re red?” Xiao Se asked with curiosity.
There was a brief pause before Dragon Nightshade’s body burst forth with a crimson glow. In an instant, her hair, flowing sleeves, ethereal skirt, and pupils all turned red, and even her aura seemed to grow stronger.
At the same time, her entire demeanor underwent a tremendous transformation.
If her original blue form was gentle and shy, like flowing water—taciturn and demure—then her red form was fierce, bold, and flamboyant.
“Brother.” The red Dragon Nightshade completed her transformation.
“Woo woo.” Although still in spirit form and unable to feel warmth, she seemed to revel in the moment.
After a while, as if tired of teasing, the red Dragon Nightshade finally released Xiao Se.
Seeing Xiao Se’s face flushed bright red, she pinched his cheek playfully. “Wow, brother, your cheeks are so soft! I never imagined you’d be so handsome and adorable as a child in this life.”
“Ahem.” Suppressing the urge to faint from a sudden nosebleed, Xiao Se cleared his throat. “Well, Dragon Nightshade, be more careful next time.”
“Hehe.” Xiao Se’s warning made red Dragon Nightshade’s beautiful eyes curve into crescent moons. She leaned close to his ear, breathing out an intoxicating whisper, “I’ll only do things like this to you, brother.”
“Ouch.” Resisting the impulse to punish her on the spot, Xiao Se lightly tapped her head with a playful chop, feigning sternness. “Dragon Nightshade, girls must learn to be modest. You can’t act like this. Also, pull up your top a bit. Look at your blue form—it’s done so well, very conservative.”
Covering her not-so-sore head, red Dragon Nightshade pouted and argued, “I clearly heard your heartbeat speed up just now. Based on male physiology, you wanted to pounce on me.”
She then turned her head and whispered, “The clothes aren’t my choice. The original and I wear the same outfit; it’s just that I’m bigger than the original.”
“Hey, hey. I heard that! Dragon Nightshade, I might just tell the original about this!” Xiao Se teased.
“Brother, no!” Red Dragon Nightshade hurriedly stopped him. “If you tell the original, she’ll get angry and won’t let me come out anymore.”
Seeing her anxious expression, Xiao Se smiled softly and pulled her into his arms. “Don’t worry. Whether you’re red or blue, I’ll always protect you both. And thank you for using your soul power to repair my damaged meridians earlier. But I hope you won’t use it so casually next time.”
Red Dragon Nightshade’s power came from a millennium-old demonic force in the Immortal Sword world.
Yet in this world, there was only soul power and fighting energy.
In spirit form, absorbing fighting energy, soul power regenerated very slowly. Without a rare elixir like the Seven Spirit Phantom Saliva to restore soul energy, using it was like spending with no immediate replenishment.
“Brother, Dragon Nightshade understands.” She knew Xiao Se’s concerns but would still rush to save him without hesitation whenever he was in danger.
With a flash of blue light, red Dragon Nightshade reverted to her original blue form, shyly nestling in Xiao Se’s embrace. Though bashful, she didn’t leave, instead opening her arms to hug him and softly asked, “Brother, what did you say to the red me just now? She didn’t do anything inappropriate, did she?”
Her blue form’s personality was the exact opposite of her red self, and in her mind, she was already imagining red Dragon Nightshade doing naughty things behind her back with Xiao Se.
“Ahem, nothing much. Red is great. No matter which one you are, you’re wonderful.” Xiao Se gave blue Dragon Nightshade a thumbs-up.
Hearing this, blue Dragon Nightshade breathed a sigh of relief and changed the subject. “Brother, you’ve successfully tamed the primal beast fire of the fifth-rank magical beast, the Devouring Fire Wyrm. Why not test its power?”
Xiao Se nodded slightly, raising his right hand. Fighting energy flowed along his meridians into his arm, finally releasing from his palm a rising azure-white flame.
The temperature in the stone chamber instantly rose several degrees.
“Is this the beast fire?” Dragon Nightshade’s eyes widened as she curiously stared at the azure-white flame in Xiao Se’s hand.
“Mm.” Xiao Se smiled and handed her a ring with a red exterior and blue interior. “Dragon Nightshade, next I’m going to devour the beast fire to advance my Fiery Decision technique. If you have nothing to do, you can return to the Magic Sword space, read books, or do embroidery. This low-level ring contains everything you need.”
“Thank you, brother.” Knowing that devouring the beast fire posed little danger, Dragon Nightshade accepted the ring without hesitation.
Two hours later, the devouring was complete. The pale yellow fighting energy spiral within Xiao Se transformed entirely into azure-white.
“I didn’t expect my cultivation to jump straight from one-star fighter to four-star fighter, and my Fiery Decision technique evolved from low-level yellow rank to mid-level yellow rank. Although this beast fire isn’t as high-grade as the purple fire cultivated by the original Xiao Yan through the symbiotic amethyst source, as the primal beast fire of the fifth-rank Devouring Fire Wyrm, its energy is far more formidable.”
After nearly a month of arduous training, Xiao Se had been just one step from two-star fighter, but devouring the beast fire allowed him to leap over that hurdle and gain an extra two star levels from the residual energy.
“Brother, I can feel you’ve grown much stronger.” Seeing Xiao Se awaken, Dragon Nightshade set down her book and happily ran to his side, wrapping her arms around his.
“Mm, I have indeed grown a lot stronger. Now I can focus on cultivating the Fiery Flame Sword, this fire-controlling martial skill.” Xiao Se nodded slightly, raising his right hand. In his palm, a simple long sword formed from azure-white flames.
[Beep. The one-month period has arrived. Exchange attempts have been refreshed. Congratulations, host, you have gained one exchange opportunity.]
Casually pulling out a scroll adorned with a precious image inside, Xiao Se called out in his mind, “System, exchange this scroll.”
What he needed most now was fighting techniques. Relying on a single advanced profound skill, the Fiery Flame Sword, was not enough.
