Chapter 37: Meeting the Little Fairy Doctor Again

"Hey, have you heard? A few months ago, the Little Fairy Doctor found treasures left behind by a predecessor in the Magical Beast Mountain Range. Rumor has it there's even a Profound-tier cultivation technique inside!"

"A Profound-tier technique? Are you serious? I don't believe it."

"I'm not sure either, but that's what's being spread by the Wolf Head Mercenary Group. Now, not only are they after that technique, but the master of the Ten Thousand Medicine Pavilion wants it too."

"If that's the case, the Little Fairy Doctor's situation is grim. Should we go help her? After all, we've benefited from her kindness more than once."

"The master of the Ten Thousand Medicine Pavilion and Mu She, the leader of the Wolf Head Mercenary Group, are both Dou Shi experts. If you're looking to die, then by all means, go ahead."

High up on a cliff, Xiao Se frowned as he listened to the discussion drifting up from below. "It seems the Little Fairy Doctor has been discovered after all," he muttered to himself.

"Brother, do you intend to save the Little Fairy Doctor?" Long Kui’s ethereal voice suddenly echoed in Xiao Se’s mind from within the Demon Sword.

Xiao Se nodded slightly and replied, "We are, after all, acquaintances."

Long Kui smiled sweetly. "Then you should go, Brother. With your current strength, there shouldn't be anything in Green Mountain Town that can threaten you."

"I thought you might try to stop me," Xiao Se said with a hint of surprise and a faint smile.

"Hehe, Long Kui can tell that the Little Fairy Doctor is different to you. I think you must have known her for a long time, haven't you?" Ever since she first saw the Little Fairy Doctor, Long Kui noticed that Xiao Se treated her differently from other girls. He had even been willing to share the treasures he found in the cave—though they were useless to him, such an act was something he had never done for anyone else.

Xiao Se nodded lightly at her question, not denying it. It was true; he had known the Little Fairy Doctor in his previous life.

Quietly plucking a Blood Lotus Fruit, Xiao Se avoided the mercenaries and headed straight toward Green Mountain Town on the outskirts of the Magical Beast Mountain Range.

Returning to the town, Xiao Se listened to the bustling noise of the crowd and shook his head with a touch of nostalgia. He had spent several months in the mountain range, and perhaps due to the nature of humanity as a social species, he felt an indescribable sense of comfort upon returning to society.

Without lingering in the busy streets, he navigated through several alleys, following the route in his memory until he reached the Ten Thousand Medicine Pavilion. The pavilion, which previously had few guards, was now heavily fortified; every entrance was guarded by at least two men.

Xiao Se frowned at the sight. The priority was to find the Little Fairy Doctor without alerting the pavilion master. If he got entangled in a fight, the Little Fairy Doctor might flee on her own, which would be counterproductive.

He immediately activated his breath-concealing technique, shrouded his aura, and carefully climbed over the wall into the garden behind the estate. Moving silently, he slipped into the manor.

Avoiding the guards, he grabbed a maidservant, covered her mouth, and whispered a threat, "Where is the Little Fairy Doctor? Tell me, or if you dare to scream, I’ll strip you bare and throw you out."

"Mmph, mmph..." Terrified, the maid wept and nodded after a moment, gesturing toward the direction of the Little Fairy Doctor’s room.

After learning her location, Xiao Se knocked the maid unconscious with a strike to the neck, hid her in a corner, and stealthily made his way toward the room.

Before long, having dodged several patrols, he reached a quiet room by the lake. Except for the side facing the water, every window and door was guarded. With no other choice, he dived into the lake behind the house and used his Ethereal Mist Steps to slip through an open window.

Upon entering, he was met with a familiar, peculiar medicinal scent—the very same one used in the sedatives the Little Fairy Doctor once carried.

With a flash of movement, he utilized the second level of his Ethereal Mist Steps to appear instantly behind the person who tried to ambush him. He covered her mouth and gestured for silence. "Shh, Little Fairy Doctor, it's me."

Hearing his familiar voice, she froze for a moment before nodding. Xiao Se slowly released her.

"Xiao Se?" She turned around, took a few steps back, and looked him up and down in astonishment. "Is it really you?"

Xiao Se rolled his eyes and retorted, "Who else could it be?"

"Where is your mask? And how have you grown so tall in just a few months?" Once she confirmed it was him, she let out a sigh of relief, though her eyes were filled with bewilderment as she fired off questions.

"I’m still at the age where I’m growing, isn't it normal to shoot up?" Xiao Se pulled at the corner of his mouth, offering a perfunctory excuse. He couldn't exactly tell her that he had inherited the spirit power of Dai Mubai, which caused his rapid growth.

Upon hearing this, the Little Fairy Doctor suddenly understood. "No wonder I almost didn't recognize you."

Xiao Se walked to the table with a smile, sat down, and crossed his legs. "Well, aren't I a good friend? As soon as I heard you were in danger, I came to save you, and yet you tried to ambush me."

The Little Fairy Doctor smiled, tucked a strand of hair behind her ear, and said helplessly, "I had no choice. My strength is limited, and when I saw a strange man burst into my room, I had to use underhanded methods to protect myself."

"Alright, alright. 'Weak,' you say? Below the Dou Shi rank, how many could stand if they were hit by your poison?" Xiao Se waved his hand and asked, "Tell me, how did you get discovered? Don't tell me you couldn't help but tell someone about the cave."

Her smile faded, and she shook her head with a sigh. "I'm not that foolish. It was Mu Li of the Wolf Head Mercenary Group. He had been pursuing me, and after I rejected him, he bribed my personal maid. She snuck into my room, saw the rare herbs I had collected, and reported it to him. Mu Li then spread rumors that I had found a predecessor's cave filled with rare herbs and a Profound-tier technique. The pavilion master believed him."

She sneered, "Heh, he just wants to make it impossible for me to stay in Green Mountain Town so that I would have to throw myself into his arms. How ridiculous."

"So you decided to hide in the Ten Thousand Medicine Pavilion, using their herbs to study the poisons in the Seven-Colored Poison Scripture, planning to leave later?" Xiao Se asked with a grin.

"Not exactly." She shook her head, her face softening into a gentle smile. "I was also waiting for you to come save me."

"Then let's go," Xiao Se said simply. His cultivation had already broken through to the ninth star of the Dou Zhe rank. With his Red Flame Sword, Ethereal Mist Steps, and the Roar of the Mad Lion, he did not fear even a Dou Shi.

Even if he encountered an opponent he couldn't defeat, he could still use the Demon Sword to kill them across ranks, or at the very worst, he had Long Kui as his final insurance.
