Chapter Twelve: Director Wang Comes to Lodge a Complaint
“Director Wang, I have something to report to you.”
Yi Zhonghai burst in hastily with Jia Dongxu, his words brimming with excitement and agitation.
Director Wang frowned slightly. She had been fairly satisfied with Yi Zhonghai until now, but a sense of disgust began to well up within her.
“What is it?”
Suppressing her inner disdain, Director Wang asked coldly.
“Ever since Wang Lin arrived, our No. 95 Courtyard has been in turmoil. Yesterday, we held a full courtyard meeting and, by vote, decided to expel Wang Lin from the courtyard. That’s why I came to report to you.”
Director Wang’s expression darkened at the mention of Wang Lin’s name, and her hatred for Yi Zhonghai grew.
“That damned Yi Zhonghai, do you really think Wang Lin is someone you can provoke?”
At this moment, Director Wang had already considered removing Yi Zhonghai from her position. She had no intention of being dragged into trouble because of Yi Zhonghai’s provocations against Wang Lin.
Excited, Yi Zhonghai failed to sense Director Wang’s true feelings and eagerly looked to her, anticipating a response.
Suppressing her anger, Director Wang’s tone grew even colder.
“Wang Lin’s house was awarded by the state; it belongs to him personally. Unless he wishes to leave, no one else can force him out of the courtyard.”
“Ah!”
Jia Dongxu gasped in surprise.
He had come with the intention of driving Wang Lin out of the courtyard, hoping to see Qin Huairu regret it and bow before him.
But now, unable to expel Wang Lin, he was utterly disappointed.
Yi Zhonghai’s heart sank. Though equally shocked, he managed to remain composed and showed no abnormal reaction.
“I see. Haha, sorry to bother you, Director Wang. I’ll take my leave then.”
Yi Zhonghai pulled Jia Dongxu away, their faces dark with displeasure.
Director Wang watched their retreating figures with a deepening expression.
For Jia Dongxu to be out, it was obvious Wang Lin had written a letter of forgiveness for him. Otherwise, in this day and age, given Jia Dongxu’s actions, he would have been sentenced to at least three to five years in prison; if made an example, he might have even faced harsher punishment.
Yet Wang Lin had forgiven Jia Dongxu, and not only did Jia Dongxu show no gratitude, he immediately began causing trouble for Wang Lin again—a truly despicable character.
Now Director Wang was curious about how the No. 95 Courtyard had ever been recognized as an exemplary courtyard.
---
Composing herself, Director Wang hurried to the Red Star Steel Mill. She had to inform Wang Lin of today’s events and check if he needed any assistance.
“Knock, knock, knock.”
“Come in.”
With Wang Lin’s permission, Director Wang entered his office and immediately saw Qin Huairu sitting on Wang Lin’s lap.
Noticing the fine sweat on Qin Huairu’s brow and her flushed cheeks, Director Wang, as someone experienced, naturally understood what they had just been doing.
But she feigned ignorance and directly informed Wang Lin about Yi Zhonghai and Jia Dongxu.
Wang Lin remained calm upon hearing the news, but Qin Huairu was furious.
“That Jia Dongxu is truly despicable. If Brother Lin hadn’t written that letter of forgiveness, he’d still be behind bars.”
Wang Lin gently rubbed Qin Huairu’s little nose and smiled.
“Alright, don’t be angry. I’ve known what kind of person he is for a long time.”
Qin Huairu stuck out her tongue playfully, looking utterly adorable. If Director Wang hadn’t been present, Wang Lin definitely would have kissed her right then and there.
“Thank you, Director Wang. As for those guys, don’t bother with them. Let them dance all they want; it makes life more interesting. Otherwise, how could I have the heart to steal what’s theirs? Don’t you think so?”
Both Director Wang and Qin Huairu were stunned by Wang Lin’s words.
Qin Huairu was the woman Wang Lin had stolen away from Jia Dongxu. They also knew Wang Lin intended to have many more wives, as required by those above.
Yet none expected Wang Lin to want to steal from others as well. It seemed he had tasted the sweetness of “stealing” Qin Huairu and had gotten addicted.
“Heh, heh… well, as long as you’re happy.”
Director Wang felt utterly exhausted. She already imagined that managing No. 95 Courtyard would be incredibly lively going forward.
Curious, Qin Huairu didn’t speculate wildly but asked directly.
“Husband, do you have a thing for stealing other men’s women…?”
Wang Lin anticipated her question. Before Qin Huairu finished, he placed his hand gently on the corner of her mouth and smiled as he explained,
“I’m not some pervert who enjoys stealing. It’s just fate.”
Director Wang was puzzled by this, being an ordinary person.
But Qin Huairu, now a cultivator, understood that Wang Lin could see fate. Certainly, as with her, there were other men’s prospective partners in the courtyard that Wang Lin had taken an interest in, though judging by Wang Lin’s tone, not many.
---
Director Wang observed that despite Wang Lin’s intentions to pursue other women, Qin Huairu showed no jealousy. This impressed her greatly. She also admired Qin Huairu’s willingness to share her man with others, something Director Wang herself could never accept.
“Well then, since you have your own ideas, I won’t interfere. If anything comes up, you or Huairu can just come to the neighborhood office and find me.”
Wang Lin nodded lightly, satisfied with Director Wang. Thinking of the coming calamity, he offered a warning.
“Director Wang, if you have enough money, it’s best to store up extra grain.”
Without another word, Wang Lin turned to kiss Qin Huairu.
Blushing, Director Wang quickly fled Wang Lin’s office.
Though embarrassed, her mind was chiefly occupied by Wang Lin’s words.
“Store grain?”
She couldn’t understand, but knew Wang Lin possessed knowledge beyond her reach. Since she couldn’t comprehend it, she resolved to simply follow his advice.
Standing outside Wang Lin’s office lost in thought, she suddenly heard the suggestive sounds emanating from within.
“Oh my, looks like Huairu is truly blessed. No wonder she isn’t jealous.”
Director Wang didn’t leave immediately but eavesdropped by the corner for three full hours until her shift ended and the sounds ceased.
She envied Qin Huairu deeply.
As a normal woman, who wouldn’t want to experience that ecstatic feeling? Alas, Wang Lin was not her man; she could only feel envy and jealousy.
Once the noises stopped, Director Wang hurried away from the steel mill, anxious to keep her eavesdropping secret.
Unbeknownst to her, Wang Lin’s office was now empty. Wang Lin had already taken Qin Huairu to the entrance of No. 95 Courtyard.
He came today looking for trouble. Knowing the scoundrels in the courtyard well, he was sure they wouldn’t have returned all his belongings. This gave him ample reason to provoke them.
Wang Lin didn’t care about those trash; he merely wanted to tease them. Seeing them angry brought him great joy.
His twisted mindset stemmed chiefly from a desire to avenge Qin Huairu from the original story.
