Chapter Two: Expelling Xu Ye? Rebellion Against the Heavens
Xu Ye’s gaze was icy, his eyes brimming with hatred.
But Xu Ruowei was utterly baffled. In her memory, Xu Ye had always been her obedient lapdog, coming at her beck and call and dismissed at her whim. She never needed to offer anything in return; a scant smile or a rare moment of kindness was enough for Xu Ye to worship her like a goddess, treating her as if she were made of glass.
What was happening today?
Had Xu Ye lost his mind?
Her best friend stepped forward, pointing straight at Xu Ye’s nose and berating him, “Xu Ye, what’s wrong with you? Have you forgotten your place?”
“You’re just the servant’s son in Ruowei’s household, and you dare speak to your master like that? Are you insane?”
“Hurry up and apologize to Ruowei!”
Xu Ye looked at Xu Ruowei, a mocking smile barely touching his lips. “Is that really what you think? That I’m the servant’s son in your house? Are you sure about that?”
Xu Ruowei’s expression flickered violently.
All these years, Xu Ye had obeyed her every word. Over more than four years, she had grown completely accustomed to her identity as the pampered heiress, so much so that she nearly forgot it was she who was the housekeeper’s daughter in Xu Ye’s family.
But today was the new semester’s orientation! With all these people watching, how could she possibly admit the truth?
At that critical moment, Pei An, who knew her predicament, jumped in. “Xu Ye, are you out of your mind?”
“So what if I asked you to order some milk tea? It’s a chance for you to curry favor—you should be grateful! Not everyone gets such an opportunity, so don’t be ungrateful.”
Xu Ye’s eyes were frosted as he regarded this despicable man.
In his previous life, Pei An had conspired with Xu Ruowei to deceive him, telling him they were cousins. Using that pretense, they brazenly flirted in front of him, and a year later, Pei An privately approached him for financial support to study abroad in the US.
Because of his blind affection for Xu Ruowei, he had not only agreed but had given Pei An ten million yuan.
And what was the result?
Not only had Pei An betrayed him, but he and Xu Ruowei had joined forces to seize his family fortune, leaving Xu Ye to die in bitter regret.
So it wasn’t just Xu Ruowei—this man, too, would not escape retribution.
“He’s just a servant in Ruowei’s household. Do whatever you’re told—why so much backtalk?” The president of the Ancient Arts Club also stepped forward, eyes cold as ice as he glared at Xu Ye.
“To be Ruowei’s dog is a blessing you don’t deserve even after ten lifetimes, and you dare cop an attitude? Want me to teach you a lesson?” Jiang Yang, the president of the Fitness Club, was even more direct, jabbing a finger hard into Xu Ye’s chest.
Xu Ye glanced down at the offending finger, then met Jiang Yang’s gaze, his smile cold and cutting. “Go ahead, I’m right here. Try it if you dare.”
“Damn it, you think I won’t?” Jiang Yang snarled, but in truth, he hesitated.
After all, this was the main gate of Jiangzhou University, and today was orientation day. To start a fight in front of so many people? Even with his connections, he’d at least get a serious disciplinary record!
But just letting it go? He couldn’t swallow his anger.
At that moment, Qi Mingyu, the vice president of the Student Council, stepped out, looking at Xu Ye as if at a dead man.
“Xu Ye, don’t you think you’re being a bit too arrogant?”
“Remember your place—you’re just a servant in Ruowei’s house!”
“You keep provoking us. Aren’t you afraid Ruowei will fire you, and even your father too?”
“Have you thought about the consequences?”
Jiang Yang’s eyes lit up.
Right, why hadn’t he thought of that?
Xu Ye was a servant in Ruowei’s house—why bother getting physical? It would be elevating him to do so. Just let Ruowei sack both father and son. Let’s see how arrogant this lapdog can be then!
But before he could speak, Xu Ye turned to Qi Mingyu, a faint smile playing at his lips. “Tell her to do it. Fire us now.”
“If she doesn’t, then you two can call me daddy.”
In his previous life, Xu Ruowei would often “invite” the Student Council and the core members of various clubs out for food and entertainment. Milk tea was the least of it—there were wild parties at exclusive clubs, banquets at seven-star hotels, impromptu trips around the world. All those expenses had been covered by Xu Ye, while Xu Ruowei took the credit and built her reputation.
Looking back, Xu Ye could only feel like an absolute fool.
See? They took everything from him, yet not a single one ever felt grateful.
Since that was the case, he might as well toss aside his so-called dignity and embrace a life without scruples. Everything he had given before, he would now reclaim, piece by piece.
But the crowd could no longer contain their fury.
“What did you say, Xu? Say that again if you dare!”
“Arrogant! This boy is truly defying all order!”
“Ruowei, are you going to tolerate this?”
“Expel him! Both him and his father must go!”
Incensed, the members of the Student Council and the orientation committee clamored for action. Xu Ruowei, however, was sweating cold bullets.
Others might not know the real relationship between her and Xu Ye, but she certainly did. Expel Xu Ye and his father? It’d be more likely for them to expel her and her mother.
But with so many classmates present, she couldn’t possibly say that. Swallowing her nerves, she tried to calm everyone.
“All right, let’s not make a scene.”
She turned to Xu Ye, feigning a pitiful expression.
“Xu Ye, I know you’re having a bad day. I won’t hold it against you. Why don’t you go back to your dorm for now? We can talk later.”
She had sensed something was off with Xu Ye today and was quick to find herself a way out.
But what was really going on with him? How had he suddenly changed so drastically, daring even to defy her?
Had he discovered the secret between her and Pei An?
That had to be it—there could be no other explanation.
But it didn’t matter; whatever the reason, she’d just have to placate him later. At worst, she’d let him hold her hand today.
But she wouldn’t make such a sacrifice for nothing. After he’d embarrassed her like this, she’d have to get at least a few hundred thousand out of him in return. Hmph!
“Ruowei, how can you let this go?” someone exclaimed, unable to bear her ‘tolerance’ toward a mere servant.
“I’ve never seen such an insolent dog. If he were my servant, I’d break his legs on the spot.”
“He’s only like this because you spoil him!”
“Ruowei, you’re far too kind.”
“If it were up to me, I’d expel him at once—see if he could keep up his arrogance then!”
Xu Ruowei sighed, her tone gentle. “My parents are always busy with work. When I was little, it was Xu Ye’s mother who raised me. For her sake, let’s forgive him this time.”
A teardrop-shaped mole adorned the corner of each eye, lending her a natural air of frailty and innocence that tugged at the heartstrings. Her words made her seem even more pitiable, and some couldn’t help but feel the urge to take her in their arms.
“Ruowei, you’re simply too good-hearted.”
“If it were anyone else, Xu Ye would have been dealt with long ago!”
“To serve you is a blessing he earned over ten lifetimes, and yet he dares to throw a tantrum. You’ve truly spoiled him…”
Watching this pack of sycophants fawn over Xu Ruowei, Xu Ye couldn’t help but laugh aloud.
Yet, remembering he had once been the most pathetic among them—no, the greatest fool of all—he felt a wave of self-loathing.
Xu Ye, what kind of idiot were you in your last life to have fallen for such a shameless, venomous woman?
Fortunately, all that was in the past. In this life, Xu Ye would not make the same mistakes.
He gave Xu Ruowei one last cold glance before striding away toward the Law Department’s orientation booth.
There was no rush for revenge. Having been reborn more than six years in the past, he had all the time in the world to toy with them at his leisure.
But that girl who dug him up with her bare hands, sobbing and begging him not to die…
What had he forgotten and missed in his previous life?
This time, he would find out.
