Chapter Twenty: This Is Good, Truly Good
“Damn, she’s so beautiful!”
“It looks like she’s staring at me. Could it be because I’m handsome?”
“Get out of here! She’s obviously looking at me!”
Many of the people around Xu Ye erupted, and a few freshmen who considered themselves good-looking started arguing outright.
But Xu Ye didn’t hear a word.
He just stared blankly at the woman not far away, who was wearing a fisherman's hat, his eyes unknowingly growing moist.
That slender, delicate figure was the last girl he saw before his previous life ended and he was reborn.
Perhaps due to the distance,
the girl didn’t notice Xu Ye’s unusual gaze. She slowly raised her pale hand, took off the Bluetooth earphones from her ears, and put them back into their case.
“Damn, is this a hint for us to go talk to her?”
“Then what are we waiting for? Lao Chu, you go first!”
“No, Brother Jie, I’m scared, don’t make me, Brother Jie~”
The group pushed and shoved each other, clearly all stunned by the girl not far away.
But before they could decide, a figure took a deep breath and strode forward boldly.
“Excuse me, do you need any help?” Xu Ye’s voice trembled, a mix of emotion and nervousness.
“Thank you, senior,” Su Ziqin replied, her voice also trembling. Finally meeting him, she was even more beautiful than in the photos, and she had broken ties with her first love.
How wonderful, truly wonderful.
Little did she know, those five words pierced Xu Ye’s heart deeply.
Taking another breath, Xu Ye smiled as he took her hand.
Su Ziqin slung her white backpack over her shoulder again.
Around them, the murmurs of onlookers rose once more.
“Damn it, Lao Chu, I told you to hurry up, but you didn’t listen. Now look, someone else beat you to it.”
“What do you know? She arrived an hour ago. Many people went up to ask if she needed help, but all were rejected, okay?”
“Then why did this guy get accepted? Is it just because he’s handsome?”
“Handsome my ass… oh wait… he really does look pretty handsome…”
“Damn it, why him? Why? Why?!”
No matter how much they talked, Xu Ye and Su Ziqin no longer heard anything.
Xu Ye dragged his suitcase ahead, Su Ziqin followed silently behind.
They walked a distance in silence before Xu Ye slowed his pace, feigning calm, and softly asked, “You’re not from Jiangzhou, right?”
No need to rush, take it slow, don’t scare her.
The key was to avoid any misunderstanding—that his intentions were not driven by attraction.
After all, in this life, this was their first meeting, and he likely still knew nothing about her connection to QQZJ.
“Mm,” Su Ziqin replied softly.
“I thought so, your accent’s different. Where are you from?”
“Shangjing,” she answered calmly.
“That far? So you must have gotten up at three or four in the morning to get here so early?”
Su Ziqin hesitated, wanting to say she had arrived two days ago but didn’t come over earlier because she heard he’d be with his first love yesterday.
But the words stopped at her lips, and she only said softly, “It’s okay.”
“By the way, which department are you in?”
“Law.”
“Future lawyer, huh? Keep it up, junior, you’ll make it.”
“Thank you,” Su Ziqin answered simply.
True to her nature, she was reserved and aloof, making it difficult to read her thoughts through her expression.
“By the way, what’s your name?” Xu Ye asked, pretending not to know.
“Senior, shouldn’t you tell me your name first?”
“Oh right, my mistake. I’m Xu Ye. And you?”
“I’m Su Ziqin.”
Xu Ye finally stopped walking.
Su Ziqin looked at him somewhat surprised. “What’s wrong, senior?”
“Wait a moment, I need to reply to a message.”
Xu Ye took out his phone, unlocked it, and pressed to send a voice message, saying, “I just met a junior, and she’s wearing the exact same clothes you sent me today. Isn’t that a coincidence?”
Message sent.
Immediately, Su Ziqin took out her phone, her cold, clear eyes fixed on Xu Ye. She pressed the voice message button and said softly,
“There’s no coincidence. The coincidence is me.”
Xu Ye looked down at his phone.
Su Ziqin: “Voice message 3s.”
Suppressing the sting in his eyes, he hurriedly put the phone away.
“It really is you… it truly is you.”
Su Ziqin didn’t fully understand, but smiled faintly. “Surprised?”
Xu Ye gazed at the girl dressed in a beige dress before him.
The summer sunlight draped over her, casting a soft golden glow.
But in the image from before his rebirth, she had been shrouded in despair—sad, broken, utterly helpless.
She should have been an angel, yet he had ignored her.
He shouldn’t have been so foolish in his past life—so hopelessly stupid.
Swallowing his overwhelming emotions, Xu Ye cleared his throat and said, “Why didn’t you tell me you were coming to Jiangzhou University?”
Su Ziqin smiled faintly, her bright eyes meeting his. “Aren’t you glad?”
Xu Ye murmured, “I only hope this isn’t a dream.”
Su Ziqin tilted her head slightly, brushing back her hair, and teased with a smile, “Are you afraid the person standing next to you will turn out to be a giant man eight feet tall and four feet wide?”
No—I’m afraid you’ll disappear, afraid I’ll never find you again.
But Su Ziqin thought he was completely stunned, and said coldly, “Want me to pinch you to make sure?”
Her words had barely fallen when Xu Ye pinched himself hard.
“Ouch!”
It hurt—not a dream. This was real.
Su Ziqin was speechless, looking at him as if he were a fool. “I said I’d pinch you, not that you should pinch yourself, and not so hard either.”
After a pause, she asked somewhat concerned, “Does it hurt?”
Xu Ye didn’t answer, just kept looking at her silently, unable to speak for a long time.
At first, Su Ziqin accepted it calmly, even feeling a bit joyful inside, but after being stared at like that for so long, she couldn’t help but feel a bit flustered and shy.
“Why do you keep staring at me like that? Do we know each other well?”
“Don’t we?” Xu Ye smiled and asked back.
“If we did, why are you only recognizing me now?” Su Ziqin’s tone carried a hint of complaint.
“I… no, I recognized you right away… no, I mean, from the start, okay?”
“Then why do you think I walked straight up to you without hesitation?”
“Do you really think it’s just because you’re pretty?”
“No way. Because I recognized you at a glance.”
“That voice…”
“Only a girl as beautiful as you deserves to have it.”
Su Ziqin just looked at Xu Ye steadily.
After a long moment, the corner of her mouth twitched into a barely noticeable smile.
You idiot.
Though you were truly foolish before, you’ve at last come back.
That’s good, really good…
