Chapter 27: Get Out of the World of Dance
Lin Lu’s Weibo had been bombarded with so much abuse that she had no choice but to disable the comment section.
She couldn’t get in touch with Xu Yancheng, and for the moment, she was at a complete loss.
After all, this concerned Dreamweaver’s reputation; she couldn’t act recklessly on her own.
Yuan Ruoxia had been speaking up for Lin Lu online, but to little effect.
She was quite frustrated—Lin Lu wasn’t the only person involved in this, was she? Why were all the netizens attacking Lin Lu with one voice, while not a single person blamed Xu Yancheng for anything?
It shouldn’t be like this.
“I suspect Su Yi is stirring things up; the targeting is just too obvious! Look at the past couple of days—everyone’s cursing you online, while Xu Yancheng remains unscathed.”
Lin Lu, of course, knew that with Su Yi’s personality, how could she possibly let this chance to ruin her slip by?
Perhaps behind the scenes, Wen Caiqing was also offering her advice.
With Lin Lu out of the dance world, Su Yi could easily claim the top spot.
Just like the old tricks from years ago.
At this thought, Lin Lu dialed Xu Yancheng’s number again.
The call rang for a long time without answer, and she figured it would once again vanish into the void.
Just as she was about to hang up, the call was suddenly picked up.
“Xu Yancheng.” Lin Lu gripped her phone tightly. “About the trending topic—can you do something about it?”
“No,” came the firm reply.
“You’re also involved in this. If things keep going this way, it won’t do you any good, will it?”
“It’s not good, but it’s not a big deal either.”
Lin Lu sneered inwardly—while she was frantic here, he acted as if none of this concerned him.
Her tone cooled. “If you don’t want to get involved, at least don’t let your woman fan the flames behind the scenes.”
“What do you mean? Who’s fanning the flames?”
At those words, Xu Yancheng finally reacted, and Lin Lu realized it was because she had mentioned Su Yi.
“This situation—can you honestly say Su Yi has nothing to do with it? Go look online. Is everyone blaming me while you have no negative press at all?”
“Then tell me—why would she target you?”
Lin Lu was speechless for a moment. “You don’t know why she’d target me?”
“Sorry, I don’t.” Xu Yancheng leaned back in his recliner, his tone infuriatingly indifferent.
Lin Lu was nearly beside herself with anger. She took a deep breath, forcing herself to calm down. “Xu Yancheng, Su Yi and I are rivals on stage. Offstage, because of you, it’s even less likely we’d be friends. Those photos alone are enough for her to hold a grudge. And most of the ones inciting things are her fans—isn’t that too much of a coincidence?”
“Even so, what does that prove? It’s all just your speculation. Where’s your evidence?”
With one sentence, Xu Yancheng left Lin Lu utterly speechless.
If she had known he would always side with Su Yi, why bother arguing about what was right or wrong?
Su Yi was his girlfriend; when it came to loyalties, he would never help her.
Lin Lu gave a bitter laugh. “Fine, forget I said anything. Sorry to have disturbed you.”
Su Yi’s fans were growing increasingly aggressive. Since Lin Lu’s Weibo couldn’t be commented on, they began tagging her directly, demanding a public apology.
Some even suggested her dance competition championship be revoked.
“Someone with such poor morals is unworthy of being a champion!”
“That’s right. She must come out and apologize to Su Yi!”
“If she won’t apologize, then she should leave the dance world!”
If a netizen dared speak a word in Lin Lu’s defense, they would be attacked mercilessly.
As evening approached, a group gathered outside the gates of Dreamweaver, unfurling banners and collectively demanding Lin Lu apologize.
With such commotion, Dreamweaver had no choice but to treat the matter seriously.
Lin Lu was summoned to the office once more.
“This is getting out of hand. What did Xu Yancheng say?” Huang Han was frantic with worry.
Lin Lu pressed her lips together and said nothing.
That phone call had said it all.
“You couldn’t reach him?” Huang Han frowned. “So he’s made up his mind to stay out of it and let his woman create havoc?”
Huang Han knew perfectly well who was fomenting trouble behind the scenes.
Otherwise, a few blurry photos couldn’t possibly have provoked such an uproar.
With the facts unclear and none of the parties having responded publicly, branding Lin Lu as immoral was far too hasty.
Even if the speculation about the photos was true, Su Yi was only Xu Yancheng’s girlfriend, not his legal wife. At worst, this was an emotional entanglement among three people—how did Lin Lu become the villain?
Revoking her championship, demanding she leave the dance world—who gave these people the right to pass such vicious judgment?
The manipulator’s motive was obvious: to destroy Lin Lu.
Hmph, if they wanted to ruin Lin Lu, had they considered what Huang Han thought?
These self-righteous people, being used as instruments and thinking they were upholding justice—how laughable!
“Tomorrow morning, Dreamweaver will hold a press conference…”
“Miss Huang, I want to resign.”
