Chapter 108: Blowing Up the Base
Base 7.
In a secure room, a group of high-ranking officials had gathered, their expressions uniformly grave. At their head was Commander Sato of Base 7.
One official spoke up: "Commander, I understand that Jiuju and Yaodao have rendered great service to our bastion, but you should not have put our entire bastion in danger for the sake of two people. We have all seen what kind of person Gu Sha is; he is lawless and incredibly arrogant. With his personality, if he arrives at our base and cannot find Yaodao and Jiuju, he will inevitably vent his rage on all of us, perhaps even the entirety of our Ghost Island Continent. You should not have let them leave."
Sato took a deep breath and replied, "But do you not understand what Jiuju and Yaodao mean to our Ghost Island Continent? If they die, half the significance of our hard-planned mission to explore the different dimension is lost. They are the ones most likely to inherit the divine legacy in our Ghost Island Continent!"
The officials wore solemn expressions. One said, "Whether they can truly inherit the divine legacy is not yet certain, but the immediate problem is that if Gu Sha cannot find them, he might take his anger out on us all. By then, let alone inheriting the divine legacy, the entire bastion might be gone. Have you thought about how to deal with Gu Sha? He will be here soon!"
Gu Sha’s current momentum truly held the entire Ghost Island Continent in check. When they learned he was coming to settle scores, they were all struck with panic. As for resisting, it was unthinkable. Gu Sha had stormed into the bastion and torn the coalition forces to pieces; so many shells and missiles hadn't even ruffled his hair. This god-like power left the entire continent without a shred of desire to fight back.
Jiuju and Yaodao were trembling in fear. Upon learning that Gu Sha was coming to settle accounts for their online insults, they both regretted their words so much they wanted to slap themselves. Their tongues had been their own undoing. But regret was useless now; they could only hide.
Sato pondered for a moment and said, "I have a plan. No matter how powerful Gu Sha is, he is still a man of the Dragon Continent, and these people have possessed an inherent flaw since ancient times: they love to sympathize with the weak. They always like to display their moral superiority and compassion. As long as an outsider acts pitiful and humble, they find it very satisfying and become incredibly generous. Is this not plain for all to see? Before the apocalypse, people from other continents only had to say a few words about how they loved the Dragon Continent, and countless Dragon Continent citizens would provide them with benefits that even their own people could not enjoy. Even those guys from the Black Continent, who couldn't afford to eat back home, could hold positions of superiority once they reached the Dragon Continent! Therefore, to deal with people from the Dragon Continent, one must find their weakness. They always want to show off their moral standards. As long as we act humble, if he persists in being relentless, we won't even need to do anything; the people of the Dragon Continent themselves will criticize Gu Sha!"
...
Gu Sha arrived at Base 7 soon after. The high-ranking officials of the base all ran to the gate to welcome him, each maintaining an extremely deferential attitude.
Commander Sato put on a flattering smile, nodding and bowing as he apologized to Gu Sha. "Lord Gu Sha, I am truly sorry. Both Jiuju and Yaodao are seventh-rank extraordinary warriors. If they want to run, we really cannot stop them. Given their strength, if they hide, we have no way of finding them. I am truly sorry. On behalf of the base, I apologize for their audacity in offending you. I am sorry, truly sorry!"
Sato’s attitude was impeccable, so perfect that no fault could be found. He bowed and scraped, his humility reaching the extreme.
Gu Sha’s expression remained flat. He looked at Sato, reached out, and lightly patted his face, saying, "Honestly, I still prefer that unruly attitude you Ghost Island people had at the beginning. The way you look now makes bullying you feel like there’s no sense of achievement!"
"Lord Gu Sha, I am truly sorry!" Sato bowed, apologizing with profound sincerity.
Gu Sha frowned and said, "You are making this very difficult for me!"
Sato and the officials behind him all remained bowed, but a glint of joy appeared in their eyes. Just as expected, the people of the Dragon Continent were still the same. Even in the apocalypse, they could not change their self-righteous compassion. Sato laughed inwardly. He didn't actually understand this mindset, but it didn't matter; he didn't need to. He had grasped this psychological vulnerability and could exploit it perfectly.
"Lord Gu Sha," Sato said, putting on a pitiful appearance again, "we of the Ghost Island Continent actually respect you very much. It is only a small minority who were arrogant enough to offend you. Please do not blame the majority of us for the actions of a few. We are so weak, and you are so powerful—how could we not respect you?"
Gu Sha looked at Sato, sneered, and said, "I have something to tell you."
Sato was slightly taken aback. He raised his head and asked, "Please, Lord Gu Sha, enlighten me."
Gu Sha suddenly reached out and gripped Sato’s throat, saying coldly, "You are quite right; we people of the Dragon Continent are indeed compassionate and are often taken advantage of. However, that does not mean we are stupid—it is merely our inherent kindness. Sometimes, even knowing we are being deceived, we are willing to go along with it because, compared to the truth of the deceiver's tragic story, the kind-hearted person would rather believe the lie. As for those few sanctimonious hypocrites, they are indeed stupid and disgusting. To be honest, I don't understand those people either—when they are in such a wretched state themselves, what right do they have to pity others and use moral blackmail on everyone else? It is truly disgusting. But those people are long dead in this apocalypse, dead and gone. So, why would you think that acting pathetic in front of me would earn my sympathy?"
Panic flashed in Sato’s eyes. "Lord Gu Sha, you misunderstand, I..."
With a sharp "crack," Sato’s neck was crushed, and his corpse was tossed to the ground by Gu Sha.
Following this, Gu Sha drew his Tang blade and charged into the group of high-ranking officials. With swift strikes, heads flew and blood sprayed. He cut his way deep into the base. Everywhere he passed, corpses littered the ground and blood flowed like a river.
Finally, reaching the depths of the base, Gu Sha took a C4 explosive from his pack.
"Boom!"
With the explosion, the high-tech instruments in the base detonated in sequence, triggering a monstrous sea of fire that turned the entire base into ruins in an instant. The earth shook, and flames erupted everywhere.
Gu Sha walked out of the explosion without looking back, declaring in a loud voice, "If I don't see those people within thirty minutes, I will go detonate a nuclear bomb and blow this entire bastion to pieces!"
