“Mr. Gu, have you arrived at West District Seven?” Nie Qingqing’s voice came through the earpiece.

“Yes,” Gu Sha replied.

Boom. Boom.

Explosions echoed everywhere, mingling with screams and wails. The chaos was overwhelming as debris burst from countless ruins, bricks and stones flying in all directions.

Brushing aside the flying rubble with a sweep of his arm, Gu Sha said, “If you have something to say, say it quickly. It’s chaos here.”

Nie Qingqing hurriedly continued, “Mr. Gu, please be careful. According to information from the Ministry of Law Enforcement, all the members of the association who’ve entered the Barrier this time are extraordinary fighters. Half of them are scattered throughout the Barrier on missions. Nearly thirty have gathered in West District Seven. Not only are they all extraordinary warriors, but their weapons and equipment are also plentiful. Please don’t underestimate them. Also, among them are those with supernatural abilities. Their leader is suspected to possess a mysterious power. Please take care.”

“I understand.”

Gu Sha narrowed his eyes slightly and hung up.

A mysterious power… Could it be the power of the Inscriptions?

The reason Gu Sha was so concerned about this association wasn’t merely their intention to sabotage the Barrier. The main reason was his discovery that they somehow wielded the power of Inscriptions—a power that should only exist at the King level.

Moving swiftly through the chaos, Gu Sha soon arrived at No. 16, West District Seven.

He kicked open the door and rushed inside. As he expected, the place was deserted.

In truth, when he heard the explosions on his way here, he had already guessed that the people at No. 16 were likely there to coordinate the bombings. Now that the detonations had started early, they must have left in advance. It was unlikely they’d linger.

“Mr. Gu!”

Suddenly, a voice echoed in the empty room.

A beam of light appeared on a table. It was a mini projector, casting the image of a young man, no more than twenty, dressed in a long red robe. His delicate features wore a gentle smile.

“When you see this message, I will already be gone. Fate has not allowed us to meet face-to-face this time, but we are destined to meet again. From the moment you entered the Barrier three days ago, I took notice of you. After your mission in Qingtong Town, I became certain—you are meant to walk with us. You will become the one closest to the divine.”

Watching this man spout his mystical nonsense, Gu Sha was speechless.

Still the same posturing as before—just like the association members in his previous life.

“My name is Bai Ziyu. Mr. Gu, please remember this name, I—”

Gu Sha smashed the projector with a slap, cursing under his breath, then quickly headed outside.

Moments later, No. 16 shanty exploded with a thunderous roar.

At that moment, Gu Sha had already turned a corner, lit a cigarette, and watched the explosion with a cold sneer.

He’d seen enough television to know: in these situations, the protagonist always stays behind to watch the whole recording, and there’s always a bomb left by the villain, leaving the hero battered or even dooming their companions.

Gu Sha never understood why anyone would believe an enemy would purposely leave clues. If the enemy wouldn’t offer up evidence, why stand there like a fool watching their message?

Exhaling smoke, Gu Sha gazed at the darkness, upheaval, chaos, and wailing that once again enveloped the refugee camp—a true vision of hell on earth.

He dialed Nie Qingqing. “Can you trace the man in red?”

“No,” Nie Qingqing replied. “They’re scattered everywhere, like madmen. We can’t pinpoint the red-robed one’s location. President Han says it’s all part of their plan—they’re deliberately sowing chaos, using ordinary lives to cover his escape.”

“That’s just like the association.”

Gu Sha knew he couldn’t expect any useful help from the Extraordinary Association.

He raised his wrist and checked the white line.

When he left the Ministry of Law Enforcement for West District Seven, he had already refined all the corpse nuclei in his backpack, gathering enough energy for one use of his precognition ability.

Without delay, Gu Sha activated his gene energy and awoke the power of foresight.

In an instant, a six-hour vision unfolded in his mind.

...

In that future, the Barrier was plunged into chaos. Fortunately, Gu Sha had discovered the plot to bomb Tianhu Residential Area ahead of time and had evacuated the authorities, preventing the collapse of official institutions and allowing for a swift response.

However, as Deputy Director Meng had warned, the association somehow managed to unleash a tide of corpses and beasts—endless hordes of zombies and monstrous creatures besieging the city from earth and sky.

The Barrier’s internal sabotage made defense difficult, and, worst of all, much of the outer fortifications had been destroyed, leaving breaches everywhere and multiplying the peril.

But these weren’t Gu Sha’s main concern. He had been searching for Bai Ziyu’s whereabouts, killing several of the association’s madmen along the way, but never finding a trace of Bai Ziyu.

Not until two hours later—

Nie Qingqing called, reporting that Bai Ziyu had escaped through a breach in North City in an armored vehicle. Strangely, the attacking zombies and beasts did not harm them, instead clearing a path and allowing their safe passage.

...

When the visions ended, a strange light flashed in Gu Sha’s eyes.

Bai Ziyu and his group had escaped through the corpse and beast horde unscathed. This gave Gu Sha a certain idea about the power of Inscriptions in Bai Ziyu’s possession.

The power of Inscriptions was the unique mark of kings. The Inscription power of a zombie king or beast king would exert a natural pressure over ordinary zombies and beasts—like a tiger cowing lesser animals. In later days, this was known as bloodline suppression.

“The apocalypse has only been here a little over a month. There shouldn’t be any kings yet. Where did they get the power of Inscriptions?”

Gu Sha’s suspicions deepened. He immediately set out for North City.

Now that he knew Bai Ziyu’s escape route, he could give chase or lie in wait.

As luck would have it, heading toward North City, Gu Sha actually spotted members of the association!
