There were an awful lot of zombies there, and many of them were high-grade ones at that.

Most of the people traveling with Gu Sha were superhumans. Among them were excellent fighters such as Mad Blade and Lin Xingyun, both of fairly impressive rank, but it was nowhere near enough. In that small world, fifth- and sixth-tier zombies were everywhere, and seventh- and eighth-tier zombies could be seen at every turn.

Still, with Gu Sha, a king-class superhuman, leading the way, they managed to stumble through one crisis after another.

The group searched the city and, at last, found a shelter.

Once inside, they were given a warm reception.

From the shelter’s upper leadership, they also learned that after the small world was bombarded from the sky, heaven and earth had inexplicably undergone a drastic change, and many people had suddenly turned into zombies.

Already battered by shellfire and then struck by the zombie mutation, the disaster only worsened. Of the city’s population, only a few hundred made it into the shelter; the rest were either dead or had become zombies.

Afterward, Gu Sha and the others decided to stay in the shelter for the time being, waiting until the space pod’s cooldown ended before returning to Earth and discussing how to deal with this alternate dimension.

But none of them had expected that on that very night, they would come under attack.

Everyone in the shelter had turned into zombies. In the sudden assault, Gu Sha’s group suffered heavy losses. Fortunately, Gu Sha possessed king-tier combat power, and in the shortest time he managed to reverse the situation.

Yet what came next was beyond expectation.

Those zombies were actually intelligent; they could use firearms. They detonated every cache of ammunition in the shelter and dragged everyone down with them in mutual destruction. Of the entire superhuman team, only Gu Sha survived, relying on the power of his inscriptions.

Even the shelter itself was reduced to ruins in an instant.

Alone, Gu Sha fought for a long time amid the wreckage of that ruined city.

The rest of that memory, too, was nothing but slaughter.

It continued until the space pod’s cooldown ended, and only then did he return to Earth.

...

"The Zombie Clan!"

After absorbing that stretch of memory, those words burst from Gu Sha's mouth.

In his previous life, the twenty years that followed had already been an age of great contention, and many things had appeared that humanity could not yet understand.

The Zombie Clan was one of them.

They were zombies, and yet different from ordinary zombies. At first, the term referred specifically to zombies that had evolved to king-tier, because such zombies already possessed extremely high intelligence. They were no different from humans, no longer needed to eat human flesh, and could even reproduce and continue their line.

Among the offspring produced by zombie kings, there were two possibilities: one was an ordinary, mindless zombie; the other was a zombie with human-level intelligence, but with a growth rate ten times faster than that of humans, and thus an especially rapid rate of reproduction.

Very quickly, a group of intelligent zombies emerged, and they came to be defined as the Zombie Clan.

At first, many people naively believed that peaceful coexistence with the Zombie Clan was possible. After all, the zombies of the past had no intelligence and could not communicate, whereas the Zombie Clan could. Surely that meant peaceful coexistence was possible.

In fact, there had indeed been many early collaborations, with the two sides joining forces against the beast hordes. Humans and zombies also looked similar, so they were naturally closer in appearance and thus easier to accept. Moreover, against the endless beast hordes, both humanity and the Zombie Clan were at a disadvantage, so the conditions for cooperation existed naturally.

But that period of cordiality did not last long.

The Zombie Clan soon revealed its true nature. They might not need to eat people, but that did not mean they could not. On the contrary, human flesh suited their dietary habits even better.

The Zombie Clan began enslaving humanity on a massive scale. Just as people had raised livestock before the apocalypse, humans became, in the eyes of the Zombie Clan, nothing more than a kind of meat. They recklessly penned up human beings, used special methods to induce rapid reproduction, mass-produced humans, and kept them as provisions to be bought, sold, and eaten. It was exactly the same as humans raising pigs, cattle, and sheep before the end of the world.

...

Gu Sha could now be certain that in the future scenes he had seen, everyone in that shelter had been humans disguised by the Zombie Clan, and the other side had used special means to conceal themselves, which was why they had gone unnoticed.

In later years, during the war between humanity and the Zombie Clan, there were also many cases of zombie clansmen disguising themselves as humans and infiltrating human strongholds, as well as humans disguising themselves as zombies and entering zombie cities to gather intelligence.

There would eventually be advanced technological products capable of detecting members of the Zombie Clan, but nothing like that had appeared yet.

"To think it was the Zombie Clan!"

"But I am a battle king. How could they possibly have blocked my perception?"

Gu Sha was deeply puzzled.

Even in later years, it was rare for members of the Zombie Clan to evade a battle king’s senses. If there had only been a few of them, he could have understood it. After all, not even a battle emperor could perceive every last detail. But in that shelter, all several hundred people had been members of the Zombie Clan, and yet he had failed to detect even one of them.

That was rather eerie.

"Forget it for now."

After thinking it over for a while, Gu Sha stood up and left the plane.

The problem with this alternate dimension was enormous.

Still, he did not care that much about that. What he cared about was that there were truly a huge number of high-grade zombies inside, which meant a mountain of high-grade zombie cores. What he needed most right now was a massive supply of cores, and the higher the grade, the better.

...

As soon as Gu Sha arrived at the pod base, Academician Chen came forward and said, "Mr. Gu, the cooldown is almost over. Also, today the authorities delivered a large batch of power-generation equipment. Next time, the cooldown period can be shortened to twenty hours."

Gu Sha nodded. After a brief exchange with Academician Chen, he gathered everyone and said, "This time, none of the research staff are to enter the alternate dimension. Only superhumans will go in. Keep the number to ten people, with priority given to superhumans with psychic abilities. Bring as many heavy weapons as possible."

Everyone was very confused.

Many of the superhumans could not help but look toward Lin Xingyun.

Lin Xingyun’s mouth twitched, and he was practically cursing inwardly.

Why the hell are you all looking at me? Do I even dare to object?

Lu Shanyou was killed, and the authorities did not even make a sound about it!

Lin Xingyun forced a sheepish smile, then barked, "Didn’t you hear what Mr. Gu said? Hurry up and get ready!"

He truly did not dare oppose Gu Sha now.

There were certain secrets the others did not know, but as a sequence-level powerhouse and a figure who held a command post in the capital, he had received many messages from there over the past two days. He also knew that Gu Sha had now been listed as a top-level classified matter.

When he called back to ask about it, the capital’s officials had only said one thing:

"For this operation, follow Gu Sha’s arrangements in everything. No matter what he wants to do, just comply!"

He even suspected that if Gu Sha were to become displeased with him and beat him to death right now, the authorities would still be worried about whether they had hurt Gu Sha’s hand.

The End
