Chapter Ninety-Five: The Source Vein and Internal Strife
Blade Fury, Lin Xingyun, and the others were all stunned, looking suspiciously at the mutated corpse clan member who had already been tortured beyond recognition.
Blade Fury sneered, "Stop bragging, damn it. If you're really that amazing, why didn't you come yourself? Why'd you get beaten into this mess instead?"
The high-ranking corpse clan member gave a helpless smile and said, "Yes, I was bragging. But aren't you curious why this little independent pocket realm has such abundant, dense primal energy?"
At once, Blade Fury and Lin Xingyun both froze.
They had truly never considered that question.
The corpse clan member went on, "In terms of cultivation, compared with your Earth, even the most remote backwater of our Heaven-Origin World has richer resources. King-level... well, you may not understand. The man who just fought you was King-level!
"King-level is very common in our Heaven-Origin World. As long as one has talent, one can basically reach it. The reason I could never attain that level was simply because my talent did not allow it.
"But you are different. When every world first mutates, the universe's self-protective will—what you on Earth would call the Heavenly Dao—bestows great fortune. That is what you call origin beads. Anyone who has consumed an origin bead can possess the talent to break through to King-level, provided the resources are sufficient."
The others listened intently.
They had to admit that, compared with the Heaven-Origin World, Earth's understanding of cultivation had only just begun to sprout. They knew almost nothing.
"The favor of the Heavenly Dao has given all of you extraordinarily strong talent. If people like you appeared in the Heaven-Origin World, you would be regarded as geniuses by every major faction. They would give you profound cultivation manuals and powerful resources, such as origin mines, which Earth does not even have right now," the corpse clan high-ranking member said.
"What is an origin mine?" Lin Xingyun asked.
"A cultivation resource containing extremely dense primal energy, equivalent to a mountain of mineral wealth built from corpse cores," the corpse clan high-ranking member said. "Very abundant. The reason this pocket realm has been able to maintain such plentiful, dense primal energy is because we have an origin mine here!"
"Who are you trying to fool?" Blade Fury scoffed. "If it's really that powerful, shouldn't your world be crawling with high ranks, with King-level experts not even worth a dog? Why are you all so miserable now, with no King-level in this little realm?"
"Because Earth's resources are far too scarce," the corpse clan high-ranking member said. "Very few people look kindly on a little place like Earth. Of course, not none. Let alone King-level, I can guarantee that Emperor-level... even Domain Lords could descend upon Earth.
"But that would absolutely only happen after a spatial passage is opened. Right now, there may already be King-level or Emperor-level experts controlling the invasion of Earth from a different dimension. In the Heaven-Origin World, those are all only small factions. If they go invade powerful star systems, they won't get much in the way of resources, so they might as well try their luck at a small planet like this and see whether they can seize more.
"Besides, although this pocket realm is a broken world, it is still rejected by the universe on your side. The stronger a living being becomes, the more easily it is repelled. That is also why my clan did not send a King-level or Emperor-level here. We do not lack such experts."
Lin Xingyun said, "Keep talking about the origin mine!"
Blade Fury hurriedly said, "Captain Lin, you don't really believe him, do you?"
Lin Xingyun's eyes flickered. "There's no harm in hearing him out."
The corpse clan high-ranking member continued, "We were sent to this pocket realm on a mission, so our clan naturally would not treat us poorly. Thus, they gave us an origin mine and placed it in this pocket realm, ensuring that we could live normally inside.
"You've already awakened your genetic locks, so you should understand that if primal energy is not replenished for a long time, those locks will slowly close. You can judge for yourselves whether my words are true or false.
"At present, less than ten percent of that origin mine has been used. That amount of energy is absolutely enough to raise you many ranks, and reaching King-level is not impossible. I only want to live. Spare me, and I'll take you to the origin mine. I'll even hand over the profound cultivation secrets stored there!"
For a moment, many of the superhumans were tempted.
Blade Fury hastily said, "You really believe this guy? He's clearly up to no good. How could he possibly be this kind? He's obviously using human greed to set a trap for us!"
As he spoke, Blade Fury directly swung his blade at the corpse clan member.
With a loud clang, Blade Fury's blade was blocked by Lin Xingyun.
"What are you doing, Lin Xingyun? You're not that stupid, are you?" Blade Fury shouted angrily.
"Of course I know he's setting a trap," Lin Xingyun said. "But what he said about the origin mine should be true. We can all feel how dense the primal energy in this pocket realm is. If there weren't something here capable of replenishing it over the long term, how could this independent pocket realm still have such rich, vibrant primal energy?"
"Then what do you want to do?" Blade Fury said. "Have you forgotten what Lord Godslayer said? This place is dangerous, and this man is clearly plotting something wicked. There may be other forbidden things hidden within this pocket realm..."
"But shouldn't we take the gamble?" Lin Xingyun said. "Blade Fury, use that enormous brain of yours and think about it. This is a disaster—one that has spread across the entire universe. Aside from doing everything possible to strengthen ourselves, what other path to survival do we have? So what if we know there is a problem? Risk is about whether the reward is worth it, and the value of that origin mine is enough for us to risk our lives for it.
"Think about how terrifying Gu Sha's power is. If we had ten Gu Shas, then the next time a dimensional rift like this appears, couldn't we create twenty Gu Shas? For Earth, wouldn't that be a tremendous hope?"
"This..." Blade Fury froze, then suddenly said, "No, we can't do this. I need to report it to Lord Godslayer. I'll call him back and have him use his methods to control this man and force the truth out of him. Then we'll see exactly what he's plotting. Wouldn't that be the best of both worlds? We might find the origin mine and avoid the danger too?"
Lin Xingyun nodded. "Fine."
Blade Fury immediately put away his weapon and took out a communicator.
However, at that very moment, he suddenly saw one of his men charging toward him, shouting, "Boss, watch out!"
Blade Fury spun around in shock, only to see Lin Xingyun suddenly bring a sword crashing down toward him.
"Pu!"
Blade Fury's subordinate shoved Blade Fury aside, and in his place was cleaved cleanly in two, his head severed by Lin Xingyun's blade.
"Lin Xingyun!" Blade Fury roared in anguish. "What are you doing?"
"My apologies. If Gu Sha comes, then I won't get any of the benefits!"
Lin Xingyun lunged at Blade Fury with his sword.
"Kill them!"
At the same moment, Lin Xingyun's men also moved against Blade Fury's subordinates.
