Chapter Eighty-Eight: Is the Anti-Fear Potion a Fake?
Rain exploded across the sky into a fine white spray, drifting through the night, while countless sword energies scattered in all directions, slicing the air until it rang with shrill cries.
Two figures collided high above and then broke apart, landing on the rain-soaked concrete road below.
By then, the road was already covered in sword cuts and hideous claw marks.
With his cane-sword in hand and his gaze lowered, Tang Nai coldly watched the elegant Demon Dragon King in the distance.
At this moment, the Demon Dragon King still looked as refined as ever. Though sword energy had carved many wounds into him, it did nothing to diminish the old man’s calm, composed elegance.
He wore a top hat, held an umbrella, and smiled faintly.
“The president of the Dream-Breaching Master Association in Jinling City, Tang Nai, seventy-eight years old, with his bodily functions in decline, yet still able to erupt with such power... truly admirable.”
“Judging from your burst of strength, your dream spirit intensity should be somewhere between fifty thousand and sixty thousand energy units. Among city-level Dream-Breaching Masters... you’re at the mid tier.”
The old man smiled beneath his umbrella.
“Killing you is enough,” Tang Nai said coldly.
His Chinese-style robe was soaked through by the rain, but he paid it no mind. Gripping his sword-cane, he felt the dream spirit in the center of his brow begin to ripple outward in waves.
In truth, Tang Nai had already seen through it: the Demon Dragon King’s true strength was only stronger than his own, not weaker.
If judged by dream spirit intensity, he was likely close to one hundred thousand dream spirit energy units, a high-tier city-destroying powerhouse.
Only Dream-Breaching Masters were called city-level. Demon Nightmare organizations, and members of groups outside the Dream-Breaching Master Association, were uniformly termed city-destroying level.
“I didn’t dare take on Azure Dragon’s task, so I had no choice but to volunteer to stop you,” the elegant old Black Dragon King said with a smile.
“Don’t worry. If you don’t go over there, I won’t stir up any trouble either.”
“I have no ill intentions. We can just spar a little, stroll through the night, and chat.”
“Why not take our time and make a leisurely game of it?”
“The outcome of everything actually depends on what happens over there. If Azure Dragon and the Ox-Head and Horse-Face die... even if you don’t chase me away, I’ll leave at once.”
“And if Azure Dragon and the Ox-Head and Horse-Face succeed, I won’t stop you either. Do whatever you like.”
Black Dragon King smiled as he spoke.
Tang Nai’s face turned black with fury.
What did he mean by that?
So in the end... no matter what happened, he was looking down on Tang Nai?
This Demon Dragon King was simply too brazen!
So obnoxious that Tang Nai could barely endure it.
Suddenly, Black Dragon King turned his head toward the direction of the hospital, a strange glimmer appearing in his eyes.
“It’s begun,” Black Dragon King said.
Tang Nai froze. Still gripping his sword, he also turned to look toward the hospital.
...
...
Hush, hush...
Between heaven and earth, only the sound of falling rain remained.
Zhang Changlin’s words caused the atmosphere to sink into stillness in an instant.
In Zhang Changlin’s eyes, Du Fang seemed to have been stunned by what he said.
Of course, after a series of thoughts, Du Fang felt his own reaction should not have been so calm. After all, the other party’s target was his family.
Even if they would, in the future, become the family’s food and snacks...
Still, the emotions should be shown.
Breathing a little harder, his chest rising and falling sharply as rain poured over him, Du Fang thought this way, and a surge of anger gradually began to churn within his heart.
Yes. No one... is allowed to touch my family!
He lowered his head slightly, and his eyes turned incomparably sharp.
Faintly, a brilliant golden light seemed to flicker deep within his pupils.
The rain kept falling.
Luo Luo set down the broken Barbie doll body. Sensing Du Fang’s anger, she stood up and obediently returned to his side. Stretching out a small hand, she grasped his large one and bared a sweet grin.
The hand on his shoulder gently rested there, the five fingers pressing with a soft, rhythmic motion.
And the little pig doll Chi Chi, tucked beneath Luo Luo’s arm, suddenly lifted its head too, the corners of its mouth curling with keen amusement.
They were coming for them?
Going to be swallowed in one bite?
Chi Chi was truly looking forward to it.
Zhang Changlin somehow felt a chill around Du Fang’s body and no longer dared to probe him with dream spirit perception.
After all, he did not wish to endure that sudden, overwhelming fear.
But he did sense that one sentence of his had stirred Du Fang’s killing intent.
The always good-tempered Du Fang now seemed to have a faint trace of killing aura seeping from him.
It looked as if those family members of his were indeed very important to Du Fang.
In the distance, Azure Dragon and the Ox-Head and Horse-Face stared at Du Fang.
Especially the Ox-Head and Horse-Face. As demons of nightmare, their perception was even keener than Azure Dragon’s, and they sensed several terrifying auras coming from Du Fang.
Ox-Head and Horse-Face turned to look at Azure Dragon, their eyes beneath the silicone masks seeming to blaze with fire.
“Something’s wrong!”
“Didn’t you say we were only dealing with one fallen god?”
“There seems to be more than one fallen god’s aura in this guy’s body!”
The Ox-Head’s voice was low and grave.
Azure Dragon’s expression darkened slightly.
He suddenly understood. So Du Fang didn’t just contain one fallen god; that explained why the fallen god will of Monkey Lord had been extinguished and unable to escape.
Against the power of two fallen gods, a fallen god’s will simply could not get away.
“Why panic... we have anti-fear medicine. The number of fallen gods doesn’t matter much...”
“As long as we pin Du Fang down in reality, everything will be fine,” Azure Dragon said coldly.
Horse-Face shook its head.
“No... one fallen god costs one fallen god’s price.”
“A few fallen gods may sound easy, but in truth they’re not easy to deal with at all... we need more money.”
Azure Dragon’s fury surged violently.
These disgusting bastards!
They were raising the price on the spot!
But now the arrow was already nocked and had to be loosed. Azure Dragon truly had no choice but to agree.
Without the help of those two city-destroying powerhouses, the Ox-Head and Horse-Face, Azure Dragon alone might not be able to deal with Du Fang, let alone with Zhang Changlin beside him.
“Fine! Each senior gets one more small divine core fragment!”
Azure Dragon practically ground the words out through his teeth.
His heart bled.
After handing over those two small divine core fragments, he didn’t even know whether this operation would still be worth the profit.
“Very good. Deal,” Ox-Head and Horse-Face said with a glance at each other, smiling.
“Prepare to strike, seniors!”
Azure Dragon said coldly.
Then, with a sudden press of his palm downward, he acted.
Swoosh, swoosh, swoosh!
The arrows formed from raindrops, under Azure Dragon’s control, shot out like a volley of ten thousand arrows, covering Du Fang and Zhang Changlin!
Dark and dense, they would instantly turn the two men into hedgehogs, riddled through and through!
Zhang Changlin gripped his broken blade, his aura continuously rising. The flame that had originally been unable to kindle flared up again under the stimulation of his lion-fire state!
Yet before Zhang Changlin could even move, Luo Luo beside Du Fang, still wearing a sweet smile, tilted her head and slowly raised one chubby little palm.
It was as though an invisible force of thought had spread throughout the entire void.
The arrow rain all over the sky froze.
Luo Luo clenched her five fingers.
The countless arrows of rain exploded one after another, turning into fine rain dust!
Azure Dragon let out a muffled groan, shock flashing in his eyes!
His special ability, amplified by the small divine core, was incomparably strong, almost reaching a top-tier domain ability.
And yet it had been broken so casually!
“A thought-type Dream-Breaching Master? A thought-type special ability?”
“That pressure... no, it should be a fallen god manifested in reality!”
Azure Dragon took a deep breath and spoke gravely.
After all, he was experienced, and he had never underestimated a fallen god. So he immediately reached a conclusion.
“Originally, when dealing with a fallen god, we shouldn’t release dream spirit to sense it, because that would let us be shaken by its fear. But now we have no choice—we must use dream spirit to perceive it...”
“Because now that the fallen god has manifested in reality, the threat has risen by more than one tier! I am in the light, the enemy in the dark, and that will cost us dearly!”
Azure Dragon spoke rapidly.
“Remember, the moment you release dream spirit, use the anti-fear medicine immediately! Suppress the fear brought on by the fallen god in your heart!”
Azure Dragon shouted to Ox-Head and Horse-Face at top speed.
Ox-Head and Horse-Face exchanged a look, neither of them hesitating in the slightest.
Against a fallen god, they too dared not be careless.
Fallen gods could be said to be among the most terrifying of all dream-disaster horrors!
They were the source of fear, the beginning of all that was unspeakable and unknown!
As demons of nightmare, they understood better than anyone else how terrifying fallen gods were.
Once the fear in one’s heart was provoked, there would not even be a chance to strike before being crushed beneath it.
Of course Ox-Head and Horse-Face would not foolishly choose to face that fear head-on!
After all, with the anti-fear medicine provided by Azure Dragon, they only needed to suppress the fear in their hearts and they could easily capture Du Fang.
Buzz!
Both raised their hands and pressed them to the brows of their masks.
At once, surging dream spirit fluctuations, like great rivers in flood, burst forth from their bodies!
As nightmare demons of the initial city-destroying level, their dream spirit perception was also terrifying, reaching the scale of tens of thousands of dream spirit energy units.
In an instant, through dream spirit perception, Ox-Head and Horse-Face saw the fallen gods beside Du Fang clearly.
One aura,
Two auras,
Three auras!
Three streams of darkness and terror, as if spreading from the abyss, burst forth like a river breaking its banks and slammed heavily into their hearts.
The fear buried deep inside them was irresistibly stirred to life!
A little girl with a long tongue covered in barbs tilted her head and looked at them as if looking at food.
The pink little pig plush tucked beneath the girl’s arm was full of mockery and disdain.
And then...
the blood-red hand on Du Fang’s shoulder, fingertips lightly rubbing...
They saw it... a great terror!
Three terrifying pressures almost suffocated them!
Even as city-destroying powerhouses, Ox-Head and Horse-Face still felt their bodies unable to move.
“Shot... n-now... quick, take the shot, the shot, hurry, the shot!”
Horse-Face strained to turn its head and look at Ox-Head, stammering out the words.
Without the slightest hesitation, they both took out the anti-fear medicine they had received from Azure Dragon.
They removed the protective covers,
revealing the sharp needles,
and fiercely jabbed them into their own chests!
Cold medicine flowed into their bodies.
They felt the fear...
not a single bit of it had disappeared!
Had they been given fake medicine?
Had that bastard Azure Dragon given them counterfeit anti-fear drugs?!
Thud!
Ox-Head felt the mountain of fear pressing him to his knees...
His whole body trembled uncontrollably.
“Damn it! It’s useless!” Ox-Head roared.
Beneath Horse-Face’s mask, sweat also poured down in streams.
“It’s... not completely useless, but... the dosage isn’t enough!” Horse-Face said shakily.
They needed another shot. More shots.
Then they turned to look at Azure Dragon not far away.
At the sight, they both froze completely.
Because...
they saw Azure Dragon frantically grabbing one anti-fear syringe after another from somewhere and stabbing them into his chest.
Puff!
Puff, puff!
Stab, then stab again, and stab again, and stab...
without the slightest hesitation.
Empty syringes scattered all over the ground.
In an instant, he had injected ten anti-fear doses.
Ox-Head: “...”
Horse-Face: “...”
