Chapter Eighty-Nine: Du Fang’s Fury, Manifestation of the Divine
Du Fang gazed speechlessly at the three city-destroying powerhouses who had made such a dramatic entrance. Watching them repeatedly inject themselves with syringes, their self-inflicted torment made them look less like villains and more like patients who had escaped from a mental institution. What on earth were they doing? Moments ago, they had spoken with such bravado, exuding dominance and grandeur—yet now, they knelt on the ground, needles in hand, stabbing themselves… Was this some form of self-mutilation meant to intimidate their opponents?
Zhang Changlin was just as bewildered. If his senses were correct, the oppressive Dream Spirit aura emanating from Ox-Head, Horse-Face, and Azure Dragon was indeed at the city-destroying level. But their foolish behavior hardly matched the demeanor of such formidable beings; they lacked any semblance of a true city-destroyer’s bearing. It was almost laughable.
Yet Zhang Changlin did not laugh. He had his suspicions. Turning to look at Du Fang, he seemed to catch a glimpse of Luoluo, the little pig Qiqi, and the hand of Du Fang’s wife lingering nearby… For three city-destroying powerhouses to be reduced to such a sorry state, it could only be the work of Du Fang’s family. The thought made Zhang Changlin’s heart tremble. In truth, for Du Fang to force the Netherworld and Divine Core organizations to dispatch three city-destroying powerhouses was telling enough. It meant that Du Fang’s family members were likely terrifyingly powerful themselves.
“Could it be that Du Fang is like Old Su? No… perhaps his secrets are even more frightening!” “No wonder…” At that moment, Zhang Changlin was struck by sudden understanding. Much of his fear faded away. For he’d encountered similar circumstances before—within Wildfire, Su Jiuming’s situation was much like Du Fang’s.
“No wonder Old Su and Du Fang get along so well.” Zhang Changlin exhaled. It seemed, then, that Du Fang, once the most normal member of Wildfire, was not so ordinary after all. Perhaps, in the entire Wildfire raiding squad, only Zhang Changlin remained normal. Gripping his broken blade, his eyes flashed with a keen light.
Strike while the enemy is weakened. Zhang Changlin felt no mercy for Azure Dragon, Ox-Head, and Horse-Face; these were city-destroying powerhouses, and not foes he could handle alone. But that didn’t stop him from seizing the opportunity to strike! If he could take one down first, slay a city-destroying powerhouse, the battle might become much easier!
Boom! Zhang Changlin stomped heavily, sending scorching ripples of energy exploding outwards like a cannonball. He moved with incredible speed, swinging his broken blade as he appeared before Azure Dragon. Flames erupted along the edge of the blade—a crescent-shaped arc of fire aimed directly at Azure Dragon’s masked head!
He chose Azure Dragon, for among the trio, Azure Dragon’s aura was the weakest, seemingly… not a true city-destroyer. So, he picked the softest target.
“Die!” Zhang Changlin shouted fiercely. But just as his blade struck down, Azure Dragon, who had been injecting himself with drugs, suddenly raised his head. Behind the mask, his bloodshot eyes blazed with madness, fury, and delirium.
“Get lost!” Azure Dragon’s body exploded with terrifying Dream Spirit energy. A vague azure dragon’s shadow appeared, coiling and roaring around a dazzling, six-sided azure crystal. The horrifying Dream Spirit force erupted from that gem!
“A miniature Divine Core!” Azure Dragon screeched. In this moment, he dared not hold back; after injecting himself with ten doses of anti-fear serum, the drug’s effects seemed to numb all his senses. His nerves were utterly deadened—he felt no pain, no itch, no fear, no sorrow, no joy, no happiness…
All that remained was endless, boundless rage! That was the principle of the anti-fear serum—it stimulated and amplified anger within the body, for when humans are enraged… they most readily ignore fear! This method was devised by a genius Dreamwalker within the Divine Core organization. Thanks to the anti-fear serum, the Divine Core organization had, in recent years, successfully captured many Fallen Gods! Their power grew ever stronger.
But today… none of that mattered to Azure Dragon. At this moment, he wanted only to survive! When Luoluo, the little pig Qiqi, and the blood-red hand’s terrifying aura swept over him, the fear burgeoning within Azure Dragon was almost uncontrollable; the anti-fear serum barely suppressed it, and even his rage seemed on the verge of dissolving. That both frightened and shocked him—Du Fang’s Fallen God… was absolutely extraordinary! Not an ordinary Fallen God at all!
Azure Dragon’s heart trembled with excitement—Du Fang’s Fallen God might even surpass the terrifying Seven Fallen Gods!
“It’s mine, everything is mine!” With ten injections of anti-fear serum, Azure Dragon’s heart was consumed with rage, to the point of losing reason. Facing Zhang Changlin’s attack, Azure Dragon unleashed his full power, wielding the miniature Divine Core!
Energy from the miniature Divine Core surged frantically into his body. Azure Dragon unleashed a claw! It was as if the entire building was covered by the dragon’s claw!
Thud! Zhang Changlin’s blade struck the claw but couldn’t break through! The powerful rebound even split open Zhang Changlin’s palm, blood flowing freely. He was struck head-on, sent flying like a severed kite, smashing through cold raindrops and slamming into the hospital rooftop wall, his body embedded in a spread-eagle shape.
Zhang Changlin coughed blood, his eyes filled with confusion and sorrow… Beaten again. Everyone else was putting on a show, but only Old Zhang was getting pummeled. He’d chosen the weakest Azure Dragon, but why had Azure Dragon suddenly erupted? That power—even among city-destroyers—was strong! Such cursed luck!
The power in Zhang Changlin’s heart began to fade, his Lionfire state vanished, and he was left panting. Tonight would be difficult. Zhang Changlin painfully pulled himself free from the wall. He had to keep fighting—the enemy was here for his teammates; how could he collapse now? Besides, if he fell here… he’d be outdone by Sun Yaohai!
Sun Yaohai was right nearby; Zhang Changlin couldn’t lose face before his old rival.
“Come, let’s fight again!” Zhang Changlin gripped his broken blade, and sparks rekindled in his eyes.
However, Du Fang, now clad in a red coat instead of the usual windbreaker, appeared beside Zhang Changlin at some point.
“Captain Zhang, let me handle it next,” Du Fang said softly. “They came for me—let me settle it.”
Zhang Changlin paused, turning to look at Du Fang. He noticed that the anger had vanished from Du Fang’s eyes, replaced by indifference and calm. Du Fang turned to the fallen Sun Yaohai—a Dreamwalker worthy of respect, now dead here. The culprits… were the three city-destroyers before them. And they wanted to harm Du Fang’s family.
That was utterly unforgivable.
Boom, boom! Two waves of Dream Spirit energy exploded forth! Ox-Head and Horse-Face injected themselves with several doses of Azure Dragon’s anti-fear serum, forcibly suppressing their fear and numbing their senses. Their auras now surged anew!
Crack, crack… Cold chains, forged of Dream Spirit, whipped through the air! All three pairs of eyes glowed crimson; the trio unreservedly unleashed their power.
“Don’t fight in the dreamscape—battle in reality. Fallen God’s power is weakened in reality,” Azure Dragon roared. Having taken excessive anti-fear serum, they all became like roaring madmen. Ox-Head and Horse-Face bellowed in response.
Whoosh, whoosh, whoosh! In the next instant, they vanished from sight, their movements so fast that only shattered raindrops marked their passage—colliding into droplets as they moved at blinding speed. They split into three directions, forming a flawless encirclement, intent on surrounding and… beating down Du Fang!
Had anyone witnessed three city-destroying powerhouses planning to gang up on a boy who appeared to be merely a low-level Dreamwalker, they’d surely be stunned.
Du Fang’s red windbreaker billowed; he raised his hand and gently pushed Zhang Changlin’s shoulder. Instantly, Zhang Changlin was sent flying sideways, staggering backward and falling once more into the depression in the wall, his melancholy deepening.
Around Du Fang, a terrifying aura erupted!
“Wife!” “Red Coat!” Du Fang’s hair whipped in the wild wind. The hem of his red coat became as sharp as a blade, slicing the air apart! A powerful force radiated outwards, spanning a meter around him. Azure Dragon, Ox-Head, and Horse-Face, previously blurred with speed, became visible in an instant! Their attacks pressed towards the one-meter zone around Du Fang—but could not penetrate!
It was as if, though only inches away, they were worlds apart! Time seemed to freeze; the three city-destroyers hung suspended in mid-air, their blood-red eyes fixed fiercely on the red aura enveloping Du Fang.
Within the crimson aura, the hand of Du Fang’s wife, perched on his shoulder, moved like a spider, crawling along his spine and embedding itself with a wet pop. Du Fang’s bones crackled and snapped!
Amid the thunderous bone sounds, Du Fang slowly raised his head, his gaze cold and sharp, locking onto Azure Dragon, Ox-Head, and Horse-Face. From his throat came a suppressed, resonant voice:
“You… have angered me.”
With those words, Du Fang reached out, grabbing Luoluo’s pink pig plush, Qiqi, tucked under his arm. He hurled the little pig with force!
“Moo-oh!” A deafening, thunderous pig cry exploded!
In the next instant, in the bloodshot eyes of Azure Dragon, Ox-Head, and Horse-Face…
A pink plush pig grinned widely, one hoof covering its head, the other pressed to its thigh, spinning through the air with a dazzling three-sixty, so pink it was blinding, so pink it was flamboyant!
Qiqi!
Appearing out of nowhere!
Manifested…
In reality!
