Chapter 147: Tsunade’s “Sofa” — Spacious and Soft
Within the Hidden Leaf Village, the once yellowed leaves on the trees had mostly been blown away by the autumn winds over the past few days, leaving many branches bare and stark. The temperature suddenly dropped, signaling the swift arrival of winter following the brief touch of autumn.
Inside the Hidden Leaf Hospital, in Tsunade’s office.
Kato Gofu sighed with contentment, “So big, so soft, so warm, the feel is just perfect!”
One had to admit that expertise mattered. The luxurious, high-end sofa imported specially from the Land of Feathers was truly comfortable to lie on.
At that moment, Kato Gofu was stretched out lazily on the soft new sofa in the rest area, indulging in a bit of shirking. After escorting Tsunade back from the Hokage Residence, the lazy energy within him had fully awakened. Overcome by lethargy, he had immediately pulled Tsunade down onto the sofa for a little teasing before falling asleep himself, and had just now woken up.
Tsunade, having returned from the Hokage Residence, had been playfully tormented by her boyfriend on the sofa. Taking advantage of his sleep, she finally escaped the clingy grip of his dragon-claw hands.
Having finished her rounds in both the ward and surgery areas, Tsunade had just come back and was seated behind her desk, organizing patient case files.
Kato Gofu stretched his waist slightly, settling into a more comfortable, quintessentially lazy posture. Muttering flirtatious words about how big, soft, and warm the sofa was, his half-lidded, expressionless eyes gazed out the window at the bare branches.
He had only just awoken, and his thoughts were still scattered and disorganized.
At one moment, he recalled the new appointment he received at noon from Sarutobi Hiruzen at the Northwest Barrier camp; the next, he thought of Tsunade’s “sofa” — so big and so soft.
Then his mind drifted to the secret technique he left behind in the Sharingan of the eighth Uchiha; then to the bare branches outside, the steadily cooling weather, and the sight of autumn leaves fluttering near the green hot springs behind the Hokage Rock.
His thoughts shifted to Orochimaru and Danzo Shimura at the Spring Base; then he wondered whether, before heading to the Northwest Barrier camp on official business, he might take Tsunade to soak in the hot springs one last time to enjoy the countless swirling leaves.
-------------------------------------
Tsunade sat behind her desk, hearing her boyfriend babble on about how big, soft, and tactile the sofa was — a jumble of flirtatious nonsense.
Looking up, she saw Kato Gofu lying on the sofa, his signature lazy eyes glazed over and vacant.
She knew he hadn’t fully come to his senses after waking up and was probably lost in some wild and random thoughts.
However, Tsunade didn’t want to know exactly what was running through his mind at that moment. Yet, as a medical ninja with outstanding healing skills, she couldn’t help but be curious about this strange lazy and absent-minded state her boyfriend sometimes slipped into.
Though she had grown used to these odd episodes from Kato Gofu, it hadn’t always been this way.
At first, Tsunade had suspected he was under some strange ninjutsu curse. Being an expert in medical ninjutsu, her overflowing curiosity pushed her to ask to study this peculiar state of laziness and distraction.
Kato Gofu, naturally, understood exactly what was going on. His occasional bouts of laziness and zoning out were simply the side effects of the Salty Fish Power gradually merging within him.
It was a somewhat minor aftereffect of his secret technique: Spirit·Shadow·Salty Fish Clone Technique. Unexpectedly, the ninja system had even activated a Salty Fish Constitution within him.
This Salty Fish Constitution and Power had both advantages and disadvantages, but Kato Gofu felt it didn’t impact him much.
Though the Salty Fish Power constantly influenced him, he could switch freely between the Salty Fish state and his normal self, allowing the power to run its course.
Resisting the Salty Fish Power was impossible; Kato Gofu had no strength to fight against it...
As for Tsunade, as a doctor, her curiosity about Kato Gofu’s lazy and absent-minded state during these Salty Fish Power outbursts was perfectly natural.
However, as a fair trade for her desire to study his condition, Kato Gofu requested the right to examine Tsunade’s physical state in return.
For example, he was curious about what lay beyond Tsunade’s last line of defense — the scenery beneath the jungle, within the spring’s source, and along the streams.
Initially, Tsunade flatly refused her boyfriend’s unreasonable demands, but her uncontainable curiosity as an excellent medical ninja, combined with Kato Gofu’s persistent nagging, finally wore her down one day, and she agreed...
After satisfying Kato Gofu’s curiosity, he subsequently used the secret technique: Spirit Nurturing Technique, allowing Tsunade to sense his thoughts anytime and anywhere, making it easier for her to observe his lazy, distracted state in detail.
The end result was that Tsunade’s curiosity as a medical ninja was well satisfied — but afterward, she felt she had gotten the short end of the bargain.
Because when Kato Gofu was lazy and spaced out, his thoughts were numerous and chaotic; sometimes even he couldn't clearly explain what he was thinking about.
Tsunade considered it a miracle that her boyfriend hadn’t gone mad yet. She never discovered the exact cause of Kato Gofu’s condition and could only conclude that he was a chosen one, gifted, with a powerful soul.
-------------------------------------
On this side, Tsunade looked at her boyfriend lying on the sofa in a daze, recalling the unbalanced deal they had made earlier; on the other side, Kato Gofu, perhaps having had enough of being a salty fish, gathered his scattered thoughts.
All the images of Sarutobi Hiruzen, Orochimaru, the eighth Uchiha, Danzo Shimura, and the many other random scenes vanished completely. In the end, all that remained in Kato Gofu’s mind was the image of Tsunade’s “sofa” — so big and so soft.
Coming back to himself, Kato Gofu shifted his body, not only making himself more comfortable on the sofa but also turning toward Tsunade’s desk.
He propped his head up with one hand and noticed that Tsunade was also lost in thought. His lazy eyes, with two pale blue irises, rolled about restlessly.
Recalling the image of Tsunade’s “sofa” just before he fell asleep, Kato Gofu stretched out his other hand, forming a dragon-claw gesture in the air, and shouted toward his girlfriend’s direction:
“So big, so soft, so warm, the feel is just perfect!”
The words and phrases were the same as those he had muttered while dazed before, but the tone and inflection were very different, and his voice was much louder.
This immediately startled Tsunade, who was also daydreaming, causing her to look up at him in surprise.
