Chapter 66: The Unlucky Lin Hao
As Ye Tianci and Lin Qingqian hurried toward the Menghu Group, at the same time, in front of the Lin family villa, Lin Hao was making a phone call.
“Is this Uncle Yu? It’s Lin Hao from the Lin family. My father, Lin Changren, just picked up a Cullinan from your dealership two days ago.”
“I remember now. Do you need something?” A middle-aged man’s voice came through the receiver.
Lin Hao held the phone, his expression ingratiating. “Uncle Yu, my dad asked me to give you a heads up—there’s a matter we’d like your help with. Is this a good time to talk?”
“I’m in the car. Go ahead, what’s up?” The man on the other end lowered his voice a little.
Lin Hao spoke without reservation, “Our Lin family previously worked on two projects with the Menghu Group, invested over ten million yuan. We don’t intend to recover that money.”
“But there’s this clueless brat in our family, Ye Tianci. He’s pestering us, insisting on marrying into our family, and despite our objections, he’s determined to go to the Menghu Group to collect the money.”
“Uncle Yu, could you put in a word with President Yu and have him teach this Ye guy a lesson? Just make sure he doesn’t get a cent of those funds!”
“We’re happy to let President Yu have that money. Please pass the message to your elder brother for us.”
The man he was speaking to, Yu Sihai, was at that very moment sitting right next to Ye Tianci, looking both embarrassed and anxious.
Though the phone’s volume was low, Ye Tianci heard every word and smiled at Yu Sihai.
Yu Sihai felt as though he were sitting on pins and needles.
“All right, I got it,” Yu Sihai replied vaguely before hanging up.
On the other end, Lin Hao pumped his fist in excitement and said to Lin Changren, “Dad, Boss Yu agreed.”
“There’s no way on earth Ye Tianci will get back the project funds! He’ll also get a good beating from Yu Feihu. Let’s just sit back and enjoy the show!”
Lin Changren nodded with a sinister smile. “A cripple who doesn’t know his place—he walks right into the traps I set. He deserves whatever comes to him.”
Lin Hao sighed, “It’s just a pity about our ten million; that’s a lot of money.”
“What’s there to pity? I’m now the general manager of Dongliang Group, and Liang Xianrong has given me authority. I have access to hundreds of millions!”
“Though we lost ten million, if this helps us build a good relationship with Yu Feihu, it’s a win for us, and the Lin family’s path will only get smoother!”
Lin Changren spoke with grand confidence, as if everything was under his control.
“Caw! Caw!”
Just then, a flock of crows flew overhead.
Lin Hao looked up.
Splat! Splat!
Several blobs of bird droppings landed on Lin Hao’s face, one of them hitting his mouth dead center.
“Ugh!” Lin Hao hastily wiped the mess from his mouth, gagging and cursing at the crows flying away.
“Go wash up,” Lin Changren waved dismissively.
Muttering curses, Lin Hao wheeled himself toward the villa’s pool, where there was an outdoor faucet.
As he reached the poolside, a sudden gust of sinister wind swept through, sending dust and pebbles flying!
The wind was so fierce that Lin Hao couldn’t keep his eyes open.
His wheelchair rolled straight down the slope and plunged into the pool!
Splash!
Lin Hao, strapped into his wheelchair, plunged headfirst into the water. Though he wasn’t a complete non-swimmer, his legs were broken and bound in bandages, making it impossible to tread water. Upside down, he could only choke and swallow water.
Glug-glug!
Cough! Cough!
“Help…!”
Flailing desperately, Lin Hao gulped pool water through his mouth and nose.
By the time Lin Changren dragged him out, Lin Hao’s face was ashen from choking!
The sinister wind died down.
Lin Hao lay on the grass by the pool, gasping for a long while before recovering.
“Damn it! What rotten luck!” Lin Hao punched the grass in frustration—only to yelp in pain.
Looking down, he saw a rusty thumbtack embedded deep in his palm.
“Damn!” Lin Hao cursed, yanking out the tack as blood oozed from his hand.
The tack, coated in rust, must have lain in the grass for years.
“You two, get the young master inside for a bath, then take him to the hospital for a shot—don’t let him get tetanus,” Lin Changren ordered.
The two Lin family servants fished the wheelchair from the pool and wheeled Lin Hao inside.
“I don’t need your help; I’ll wash myself.” At the bathroom door, Lin Hao stopped the servants and wheeled himself in alone.
Hardly ten seconds later, a loud cry came from the bathroom.
The servants rushed in to find Lin Hao sprawled on the floor, rigid, eyes rolled back.
Sparks fizzed and crackled from the showerhead.
The bathroom was electrified!
When the servants finally cut the power and dragged Lin Hao out, he was already unconscious.
Lin Changren hurriedly instructed his wife, Yang Lizhen, to take Lin Hao to the hospital.
Fortunately, Lin Hao’s injuries weren’t severe. He was rescued in time and received a tetanus shot; the doctor kindly advised him to stay in the hospital for two days.
Lin Hao erupted, “Like hell I’m staying! I’m perfectly healthy!”
Yang Lizhen also berated the doctor for his choice of words.
Knowing they were wealthy, the doctor didn’t dare argue.
Their car was parked outside the hospital. Yang Lizhen wheeled Lin Hao to the curb, about to have the servants help him into the car, when Lin Weiwei arrived in her new Tesla.
The brakes failed and the car barreled straight at them.
Bang!
Everyone else jumped aside, and Lin Hao was sent flying.
It so happened that an old-style sewage truck was passing by, carrying a tank covered only by a thin wooden plank. Lin Hao crashed through the plank and landed headfirst inside.
By the time they fished Lin Hao out, he was thoroughly soaked.
Lin Hao collapsed on the ground, retching nonstop.
He was covered head to toe in excrement, reeking so badly that even Yang Lizhen and Lin Weiwei had to pinch their noses and keep their distance.
The sanitation workers hosed him off, and only then did Yang Lizhen dare approach her pitiful son, tears in her eyes. “Son, maybe we should just stay in the hospital for a couple of days.”
“Why am I so unlucky?” Lin Hao was on the verge of tears.
…
…
At that moment.
Lin Qingqian’s Rolls-Royce pulled up outside the Menghu Group building.
Yu Sihai leapt out, hurried around to the other side, and opened the door for Ye Tianci with great deference.
“Mr. Ye, we’ve arrived.”
Ye Tianci stepped out, glancing coolly at Yu Sihai. “Yu Feihu is your elder brother?”
Yu Sihai nodded awkwardly. “Mr. Ye, did you hear the phone call Lin Hao from the Lin family made to me just now?”
“I heard. Are you planning to pass on his message to Yu Feihu and have him teach me a lesson?”
“Mr. Ye, you must be joking. How could I, Yu Sihai, confuse right and wrong?”
“The Lin father and son are so treacherous—my brother and I will be sure to teach them a lesson. Since they so adamantly disavow the funds, I’ll make sure my brother hands it all over to you.”
“Consider it a token of respect from us brothers. And if the Lin family tries to make trouble, I have the recorded call and can hold it over them!”
Yu Sihai bowed low, speaking with utmost respect.
Ye Tianci smiled faintly. “I didn’t expect you to be so capable.”
Yu Sihai immediately sent the call recording to Ye Tianci, then personally led the way inside the Menghu Group.
The staff and security guards all recognized Yu Sihai and saluted him as he entered.
“The second master is here,” the head of security hurried over to greet him.
“Is my brother upstairs?”
“He is.”
Yu Sihai nodded and started to lead Ye Tianci and Lin Qingqian upstairs, but the security manager stopped them. “Second master, President Yu instructed that he’s expecting a very important guest and no one is allowed upstairs.”
“You know how President Yu gets. Maybe you should—”
Smack!
Yu Sihai slapped the security manager across the face. “Important guest? The important guest is right behind me! Out of my way!”
The security manager, clutching his face, hurried aside, not daring to stop them again.
“Mr. Ye, Miss Lin, please.”
Yu Sihai respectfully ushered Ye Tianci and Lin Qingqian upstairs.
