Chapter 135: Every Cell in My Body Is in Agony!
As she listened, Shi Runrun could not help but sink to her knees.
She could not understand what Chi Wanwan was saying—she truly could not understand. Yet, her small, trembling hands instinctively clutched at the spot over her heart, gripping it with desperate, agonizing force.
Inside, it hurt—it hurt so much.
The air around her seemed to congeal, wrapping around her in an instant and leaving her unable to breathe. Her eyes, already brimming with red, widened as she began to recall every fleeting moment since she first met Xiao Xuezheng.
That night, she had been drugged. She had escaped the room of a disgusting old man, and there, in the hallway, she had run into Xiao Xuezheng. She had begged him to save her; he had asked if she was of legal age, and then, the two of them had entered a room together.
As she thought about it, Shi Runrun felt as though she had finally discovered something wrong. The hotel she had been in was a dilapidated, budget establishment. How could someone with Xiao Xuezheng’s status have appeared there at that exact moment, so conveniently?
Could it be that all of this was, as Chi Wanwan said, a calculated design?
If so, he was... how terrifying. How truly terrifying.
Shi Runrun could not bring herself to believe this truth.
Chi Wanwan was still laughing, nearly choking on her own mirth. She approached Shi Runrun, crouched down, and continued to peel back the layers of this cruel reality.
"Can’t handle it already? Tsk, tsk! Why are you so fragile? There’s more to come—it’s even more spectacular! Do you want to keep listening?"
Even if she had begged her to stop, Chi Wanwan would have told her every last bit of the truth.
"Do you know why, after you ran away to City B following your miscarriage, Xuezheng went thousands of miles to chase you back? You idiot! Did you think he loved you, that he couldn't bear to lose you? Hahahaha! You make me laugh! He couldn't bear to lose the heart inside you, the one that could save his grandfather! He had to bring you back and treat you well so that if the old man ever fell ill, you would be of use!"
Every word from Chi Wanwan was like a sharp blade, stabbing deep into Shi Runrun’s heart, tearing her already broken spirit into bloodied, irreparable pieces.
Shi Runrun shook her head, weeping. "No! You’re lying! You’re trying to trick me! You must be lying!"
She clutched her head in her hands, losing all control, screaming as she shook her head violently. She could have accepted that Xiao Xuezheng didn't love her; she could have accepted a life without him by her side. But she could not accept that everything she had experienced from the very beginning was solely because of the heart beating within her chest.
How ironic. How deeply, cruelly ironic.
Hot tears fell from Shi Runrun’s eyes, splashing onto the hospital floor and blurring into dark spots.
Xiao Xuezheng married her... why?
Just because of a child? A man of his status, rushing into a marriage with her? Yes, why would he? Why?
Shi Runrun wept, then suddenly let out a self-deprecating laugh. Yes, what did she have to offer him, anyway?
Chi Wanwan, however, was determined to pour salt into the wounds.
Pointing at her, she spat with contempt, "You arrogant, ignorant girl! When you’ve lived a life of poverty, you love to dream! Someone like Xuezheng, with such a noble status—why would he ever look at you, let alone love you? Do you think you’re a beauty of heavenly proportions? Or that you have a perfect body? What woman couldn't Xuezheng have? Why don't you look in a mirror? What do you possess that would earn his love? You thought you were living a fairytale, reaping the rewards of a beautiful romance? Bah! You’ve been played like a puppet by a calculating man and didn't even realize it. Shi Runrun, you are truly pathetic!"
"You thought you married into high society, gained the best man in the world, and won the affection of his grandparents! So you gave them your heart and soul, wanting to repay their 'kindness'! Hahahaha! Shi Runrun, you’ve reached a new level of cheapness! How can someone as base as you exist in this world? I suspect that if I hadn't stepped in to drive a wedge between you and Xuezheng, you would have even died for him if he’d asked! Hahahaha!"
The more Chi Wanwan spoke, the wider her smile grew, her triumph radiating from her face. At this moment, she was so elated that she completely forgot the agony of having been utterly rejected by Xiao Xuezheng, the pain of knowing she could never return to his side.
"Stop it! Please, stop talking!" Shi Runrun’s head throbbed as if it were splitting open; she wailed in agony.
But how could Chi Wanwan let her off so easily?
"One last secret for you. I know you think I’m lying, that this is another one of my schemes to drive you two apart. But it’s a pity—it’s all true! The ironclad proof is in the study of the Xiao villa, where you’ve stayed for so long. Behind the Van Gogh *Sunflowers* painting, there is a safe. Inside, it hides your full medical examination reports and heart-matching charts! If you don't believe me, go back and see for yourself! Hahahaha! You fool! And let me tell you, this hospital was built by the Guangzheng Group. Do you really think any of the check-ups you’ve had here could ever be hidden from Xuezheng?"
Having finished her final words, Chi Wanwan stepped away on her towering heels.
She had revealed the truth to Shi Runrun, and now she was going to find Xuezheng. She would tell him exactly how Shi Runrun’s parents had driven a runaway truck into him and his sister... how they had caused him to lose the sister he loved most. She would make sure Xuezheng knew that the woman he had married and cherished was the daughter of his enemy.
Would he turn against her? She wanted to watch Shi Runrun fall into hell!
Her own child was gone, anyway. Xuezheng had been so heartless—even when the doctor said there was hope to save the baby, he had ordered them to remove it! He had destroyed her greatest bargaining chip for winning. Since he was so ruthless, she would make sure he watched his own world crumble.
The love of the past had, in this moment, turned entirely into a bone-deep hatred within Chi Wanwan.
Ten minutes after she left, Shi Runrun remained sitting on the hospital floor, dazed.
The ground was scorching hot under the intense heat of the day, but she felt nothing but a bone-chilling cold, as if she were trapped in an ice cellar. She felt as though she were freezing to death.
It hurt. It hurt so much. Every cell in her body seemed to be screaming in agony.
She had never imagined that at her age, she would have to endure such soul-crushing, marrow-deep pain. Why would he treat her this way? Why?
Based on Chi Wanwan’s last words, did he know she was pregnant? He had known she was carrying triplets, yet he had tacitly allowed her to undergo surgery to save his grandfather...
What did this mean? He really had been using her, from start to finish.
Her tears seemed to have run dry. Shi Runrun sat there, motionless, shivering, lost in a deathly silence.
It would be better to die. If she were dead, she wouldn't have to hurt like this anymore.
