Chapter 71: My Wife Worked Hard Last Night!

Shi Runrun thought to herself, how could a grown man still be so childish? Or perhaps, when men get drunk, they all act like this? This time, Shi Runrun was determined not to play along with him—he could shower or not, as he pleased!
But in the very next second, his large hand reached out, seized her wrist, and pulled her abruptly onto the bed. Shi Runrun gasped, unable to react in time; her whole body landed squarely on top of him, pressing against his solid chest.
He leaned down, kissed her forehead, and with a curved smile said, “If you won’t call me, I won’t shower. I’ll go to bed all sweaty and sleep with you.”
Shi Runrun was speechless.
“Then I’ll sleep in the guest room!” she retorted.
He continued to smile, “No way. If you sleep in the guest room tonight, Aunt Li and the others will tell Grandpa and Grandma tomorrow, and they’ll think our marriage is in trouble.”
Shi Runrun was left with no other option. To coax him into bathing and make him more comfortable, she blushed fiercely and called him “husband” in a soft, low voice.
The words had barely left her lips when his thin lips found hers in an instant, pressing firmly against her own.
“Mm…” Shi Runrun gasped, enveloped immediately by the mature masculinity radiating from him. In that moment, she lost her breath, her reason, her sense of direction.
But the kiss was fleeting, a mere taste—he didn’t let her suffocate. Soon, he released her, then held her tightly, his chin resting on her shoulder as he whispered gently in her ear, “Darling, let’s have another child… Let’s have one more baby…”
Shi Runrun’s heart twisted sharply, tightening with pain. His soft sigh drew her in, but the mention of a child brought back memories of a past filled with unbearable sorrow.
She questioned herself in her heart—was it really possible? Could she truly have another baby… their baby? Was she really capable of being a good mother, of protecting their child?
As she fell into silence, he spoke again.
“Sweetheart, help me take a shower.”
…
Shi Runrun had thought helping him shower would be simple—just a bit of body wash, a quick rinse, and done. Wasn’t that how men always showered?

But Shi Runrun was utterly unprepared for what happened next. As soon as he entered the bathroom, he started misbehaving, lounging comfortably in the bathtub, his long legs crossed, insisting she give him a massage.
Shi Runrun could only tremble as her hands touched his burning skin, feeling as if she herself were about to be set aflame. Although they shared a bed every night, since that fateful night of mistaken passion, they hadn’t been truly intimate. Looking so openly at his unclothed body now, touching the tautness of his muscles, Shi Runrun felt overwhelmed.
Her heart pounded wildly, her whole body trembling uncontrollably.
Luckily, he was drunk, utterly exhausted, and under her massage, he fell asleep in the tub without trying to take advantage of her.
Taking the opportunity, Shi Runrun washed him carefully. By the time she woke him and helped him out of the bathroom, she was utterly spent.
Climbing into bed with him, Shi Runrun lay on her side, gasping with fatigue. She resolved that once he sobered up, she’d lay down some house rules—no more coming home drunk in the middle of the night! Taking care of him was just too much work! Did he think she was his maid?
If this happened again, Shi Runrun thought indignantly, she would never let him set foot in their bedroom!
Biting her lip in frustration, she turned her head and, in the dim bedroom light, saw him sleeping peacefully, eyes closed, breath deep and even.
From such a close distance, Shi Runrun could see his long, beautiful black eyelashes resting gently against his cheeks. For the first time, his face was relaxed in sleep, no furrowed brow, no tension.
His chiseled, handsome features softened, and his whole being exuded elegance and charm.
For a moment, Shi Runrun was entranced.
She couldn’t help but complain silently—men’s beauty really was a dangerous thing! She had almost lost control just now, tempted to do something to him…
After all, he was her husband… With such temptation in front of her, how could she be expected to resist?
As she watched him, his arm suddenly reached out, pulling her close to his chest in one swift motion.
With a soft cry, Shi Runrun’s petite body was drawn into his broad, warm embrace. It seemed to be an instinctive gesture—he held her tightly, his chin resting against her forehead, and soon his steady breathing filled her ears.
Wrapped in his arms, surrounded by his intoxicating masculine scent, Shi Runrun drifted peacefully to sleep.

In that moment, she seemed to understand what it meant for time to pass in serene happiness.
…
The next morning.
Sunlight streamed through the cracks in the curtains.
Shi Runrun slowly opened her eyes.
Instead of the familiar, cool-toned ceiling, the first thing she saw was his handsome, enlarged face.
Still half-asleep, Shi Runrun blinked, then opened her eyes wider. Confirming that he was still beside her, she snuggled closer into his arms.
Whether it was her movement that woke him or something else, in the next second, he rolled over and pinned her beneath him. His dark eyes opened instantly, locking onto her, and he lowered his head to kiss her.
“Mmm…”
So early in the morning, they were already so impulsive.
Besides, they were a normal man and woman, and, more importantly, legally married.
But Shi Runrun knew he had an urgent meeting at the company today; he’d mentioned it the night before. After a while, she pushed him away, cheeks flushed, and got out of bed to head to the bathroom.
After washing up, still sporting a rosy blush, she came back to the bedside, fully dressed.
He sat on the bed, his strong upper body exposed, frowning slightly. “Why are you running away so fast? Afraid I’ll eat you up?”
Shi Runrun rolled her eyes and teased him back, “Yes, yes! I’m afraid! Afraid you’ll get drunk again and make me take care of you like a nanny. It’s exhausting!”
His frown deepened. “I got drunk last night? You had to take care of me? I don’t remember a thing.”
“Hmph!”
They say people forget everything after a night of drinking—clearly, he was no exception.
Shi Runrun pouted, glancing at him sideways with a soft snort.
In the next moment, he rubbed his head, then reached out and pulled her over, his voice gentle and doting, “I’m sorry. I won’t go out and drink recklessly again. Last night must have been hard on you.”
Hearing this, Shi Runrun’s heart softened, and suddenly all of last night’s exhaustion seemed to melt away.
He was actually thanking her…
